Alright you little hooskerdoodles, let’s get into this adorable little M Streets Tudor with a complete and total makeover, spare room above the garage that has serious Dance Hall vibes, and is located in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Dallas — the aforementioned M Streets.
Today, she’s a serious stunner, but that wasn’t always the case. This house had fallen into disrepair when Jody and Lance Luna of MHR Texas Investments purchased it. They in turn teamed up with designer Amy Stevens, and General Contractor Chad Martin of MHR Construction to bring it back to life.
A True Team Effort
Before they started anything, MHR Construction teamed up with a foundation crew that literally surrounded the house with twenty workers and simultaneously lifted the entire home up 19 inches. The designer Stevens said it was amazing, not a brick crack, just one flawless lift.
After that, she got to work creating mood boards and plans for each room. She met Jody and Lance several years ago when she designed the interior of their personal home. They hit it off so well, they formed a partnership and they’ve been completing remodels together ever since.
Jody Luna loves getting to remodel homes. She said she always imagines herself living there and then thinks about how she would want it to be. She’s been a Realtor for almost 30 years. She’s seen “so many cool things done in houses — and plenty of not-so-cool,” so it helps her know what works and what doesn’t. She’s also incredibly grateful she gets to work with such a talented team that “transforms homes from depressing structures to little gems that take on their own personality.”
The designer Stevens said she feels the same way. Some homes feel more personal than others and because of how far this one came along, it’s definitely one of her favorites.
A New Look At Old
I will fully admit I’m obsessed with this interior. It’s such a classic Tudor on the outside, but inside it feels so dang FRESH. The layout was barely tweaked, but it honestly feels so different than any homes I’ve seen of this era. I think it’s the dramatic black dining room with the custom arched opening into the kitchen.
And get this — it was a problem Stevens had to solve. When they took out a wall between the kitchen and dining, a beam needed to be installed. But the beam as a backdrop behind the pendant lights looked weird. She also needed a hard stop for the black painted dining room and she was really feeling an arch in that space. Voila, all problems solved with one, simple arch.
The hardwoods are all original, the primary suite is HUGE, and they reconfigured the hall closet and primary closet to create an even more impressive primary suite. Stevens said she just HAD to figure out how to get two vanities in there. She done did it.
The house is cozy, chic and feels very California cool. Thanks to the finish out AND the staging, also by Stevens. There is a second floor above the garage with full electricity. It’s a bonus space that’s wide open and ready for your boot scoots. (See above for previously mentioned Dance Hall vibes.)
