Another Gem From JLD Custom Homes in Monticello Park

Another gem in Monticello Park has hit the market. This recently finished four-bedroom, four-bath home is a rare find indeed.  Plus, it’s a relative bargain in today’s’ East Dallas market. It commands a 60-foot-wide lot — about 10 feet wider than typical lots in this part of town.

“It’s a super cool house that conserves energy and provides a very flexible floor plan with luxury amenities,” Allie Beth Allman & Associates agent Gia Marshello said.

The home is the latest masterpiece from Jeff Dworkin’s JLD Custom Homes. It sits across the street from three other JLD homes, with construction set to start on another one soon.

“We’re very select in the neighborhoods that we build in and very selective about the properties that we go after,” Dworkin said. “We try to make a little community of our own when we can.”

Like all JLD Custom Homes, this one is Energy Star rated and certified green built. According to Dworkin, homeowners in similar houses have reported electricity bills lower than their water bills.

Highlights of the open-concept home with an impressive flex floor plan include a downstairs master, an upstairs study, and game room. The kitchen features a Kitchen Aid stove and dishwasher. There’s a designated spot for a microware, and even a drawer custom-made for pet feeding. The 10-foot island was made for comfortable seating, with cabinet back latches designed to prevent bruised legs. There’s also an open dining area ideal for both formal and informal meals.

One of the home’s most unique features is its utility room with ample storage and space for a second refrigerator.  There’s also a door from the utility room into the master closet that makes laundry just a tad easier.

“I call it a sneak-in, sneak-out door, because if you come in really late, you can pretend that you were in the bathroom the whole time and just go through the laundry room,” Dworkin joked.

Dworkin has been in the business for over three decades, the past 15 running his own company. After turning down the opportunity several times, he agreed to teach a construction class at Collin College this fall.  It’s just a small way for him to give back to the industry he has excelled in for years

“What keeps me going is knowing that we can still build homes that are, quote unquote, affordable for that person looking for a first home in East Dallas,” he said. “We spend a lot of time designing our homes so that we utilize space and don’t waste space.”

Gia Marshello with Allie Beth Allman and Associates has listed 4421 Somerville Avenue for $850,000.
