A Wynnewood North Midcentury With So Much to Love, We Made a List

Wynnewood North is a neighborhood that pops up on here often. But not that often because it’s a neighborhood no one wants to leave. It’s close-knit, tucked away, and a little cove of cool people — and even cooler homes.

The neighborhood hosts events and even keeps its website current, which if you’ve seen as many “Geocities-chic” sites as we have, you know that’s a feat. How do I know? I just got done browsing their Fall Wander photos from this year.

It’s a mix of longtime residents and fully-tattooed cool kids, and then there’s a few that are a hybrid of both. Namely the owners at 537 S. Manus Drive. They’ve lived in the neighborhood for a long time AND they’re cool kids. One is a high-end hair stylist and one is an architect and interior designer. I’m going to be pretty heavy handed with this because there are now three reasons this house is spectacular.

  1. Location
  2. Creative Owners
  3. Owners that have been there a minute. As in, they did all the updates for themselves. Like I know these two would do an amazing job regardless, but for themselves — let’s call it extra amazing and move on.

As for what they love about the house? Here’s another list!! It’s a combination of the two owners’ favorite things and they were quick to emphasize in no particular order. In lieu of an actual drumroll, I’m just going to say it. DRUMROLL, PLEASE.

1. Brilliant Lighting Throughout – That didn’t need initial caps, but it got it. Tons of natural light, skylights, pendants and strategically placed recessed lighting.

2. Raised ceilings with cove lights in living areas, kitchen and den – Houses of this era typically have eight-foot ceilings. By raising them, the entire space feels larger, airier and more open.

3. Huge Corner Lot – That’s no joke. LOOK at that massive wraparound yard AND there’s a pool. Also, nothing but green, greenspace across the street. Privacy, y’all.

4. Backyard Paradise – For real. Gorgeous trees, perfectly placed stepping stones, aforementioned pool and a freaking bird house.

5. Ability to display and change art from setting to setting without damaging the walls – A picture rail. A dang picture rail!! They installed a delicate ledge at the top of the wall where wires hook in and securely display art. No nails.

6. Solar Panels and Battery Packs – They installed Tesla solar panels and a charging station and that coupled with the upgraded insulation make their energy bills teeny and tiny. Also, they never lose power. Come at us, ICE. But also, please don’t.

7. Deck in rear yard, adjacent to pool – Just a gorgeous place to chill in your own private paradise day or night.

8. Trees in front and side yards – The absolute perfect amount and variety. This house is framed in greenery and it’s gorgeous.
