If you love Prairie, Craftsman, and Bungalow homes, you’re in for a treat because the Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour is this Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon until 6 p.m. It’s one you won’t want to miss.

Winnetka Heights is Oak Cliff’s first historic district and an inspiring example of preserving our architectural heritage. The annual tour is the largest fundraiser for the Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association, which works diligently to preserve and beautify the area so it remains a vibrant historic district. Tour proceeds will support the Walkable Winnetka program that provides funds for sidewalk repairs, crime prevention, beautification projects, and other local non-profits and neighborhood events.

Six homes are on The Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour this year, and a VIP pass allows access to a seventh. I don’t know about you, but home tours always provide me with great ideas and the incentive to do those things I’ve been putting off, especially before the relatives descend for the holidays! This year there are some particularly clever restorations, including a duplex that has been turned into a single-family home. Seeing how homes have been reconfigured to allow for modern living is always exciting.

“Our early 20th Century homes take on a remarkable glow during the holidays,” Winnetka Heights resident and Realtor Diane Sherman said. Sherman has lived in the neighborhood since 1979 and is a founder of the preservation effort and the neighborhood association. She’s also a corporate sponsor of the tour. “This tour offers visitors an enchanting experience not easily found elsewhere in Dallas. I love to see the joy our residents share with each other and with those who come to experience what we have in this special part of Dallas.”

The Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour’s Silent Auction returns this year. You can bid on a wide array of items from local artists, neighbor’s, and businesses. The Oak Cliff Film Festival, The Mod Lab, Beatnik Fine Goods, Oil and Cotton, The Book Doctor, and Salmeron Financial are just a few of the companies participating in the auction. Just stop by the Turner House to place your bid. You don’t have to be present to win.

General admission tickets are $18 in advance and $20 on the day of the tour. There are only 100 VIP tickets available at $35, but if you can snag one, do it. You know you want to see that seventh house!
