This Jason Castro Remodel in Richardson Really Sets The Standard

Coldwell Banker’s Jason Castro calls Canyon Creek the Lakewood of Richardson. It’s a gorgeous neighborhood with gentle slopes, large lots, million-dollar homes, a highly sought-after elementary school, and the easiest access to Central Expressway and George Bush. It’s also the location of one of his latest projects, 2200 Custer Parkway.

Castro said his family recently moved north and they’ve been focusing on reimagining homes in the area. Before that, most of their projects were in East Dallas. As an official resident of Richardson, I’m here to say ‘Hallelujah’, jump for joy, and do as many cartwheels as I can pull off in my generous backyard. (Large lots, y’all. We gots ‘em.)

Let’s kick things off with the origins of this house. It was a single story that is rumored to have been abandoned for about eight years. By the time Castro and his crew got their hands on it, it had been completely gutted and was mid-questionable-remodel. Someone had purchased the home and quite possibly gotten in over their heads.

Big Plans

Castro said they knew from the start they wanted to expand the footprint of the home and the best way to do that was go up. They added an additional 1,200 square feet in the form of a second story, but hold tight, panic party, the primary bedroom is still downstairs. They stayed true to the architecture of the house, and you know you nail it when it looks like this is just the way it always was.

Every Castro remodel is custom and special. It’s on trend without following the trend, you know? Castro and his team are tastemakers and they really set the standard. As for how he got to be this way, well, there are a couple of reasons. Growing up, Castro’s father was an architect and Little Castro grew up drafting for him.

He also said he’s obsessed with design and keeps a well-stocked Pinterest board filled with inspiration. He said when he travels, pops into a coffeeshop, or anywhere really, he takes pictures of design he loves.

Then when it comes time to pick materials for a project, he hands off his Pinterest board to tile people or a hardware specialist, shares the budget, and let’s them do their thing. For this particular project, Riad Tile is everywhere. Even the front porch. It’s so freaking pretty and they are like Zellige masters.

Castro said right now he’s super into Earth tones like the white oak flooring. Obviously, he’s into the details, too, like the arched doorways and he basically just has one rule – NO GRAY.

But, should we use gray?

NO.

But what about gray?

NO.

It’s time to let go of the gray, people. Now his go-to white is Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. Feel free to steal it because I sure will. He said they always contemplate painting the exterior white, too, but they can’t help themselves and go black. It’s so striking and different. Can’t blame ‘em.

One extra special feature and pro tip from the Castro kitchen? Look closely above. Those are porcelain countertops that flow seamlessly to the backsplash. He said it’s a relatively new countertop material and gives the look of beautiful single-slab natural stone at a friendlier price.

Final Things – Castro’s college roommate is the architect behind his designs. His name is Ryan Withrow and his company is Object + Architecture.

AND, Castro said all the neighbors have been super supportive and enthusiastic. They love the remodel, the look of the home, and can’t wait to meet the new neighbors.

This one is definitely worth checking out. Though it seems impossible, it’s even prettier in person.
