Violent crime is down in Dallas for the second consecutive year, but residents have recently raised concerns about smaller-scale neighborhood crimes like catalytic converter theft and vehicle break-ins.

Safety is one of the top priorities when buying a home, and the good news is that three of the safest cities in America are right here in North Texas.

“Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and all of Collin County is a great place to call home and now we have stats to back it up,” said Shana Acquisto of Acquisto Real Estate. “High employment opportunities bring educated, career-minded residents that continue to add to the charm and safety we all enjoy. According to the US Census Bureau, more than 98 people move to Collin County every day! These relocations bring high energy and positive vibes from people moving here from all over the country starting a new venture.  I believe the median home price makes it somewhat of an exclusive area. As of January 2023, the median home price is 510,500 in Collin County. This area just continues to grow and brings more exciting opportunities.”

We scoured area listings to find for-sale properties in Plano, McKinney, and Frisco for this edition of daltxrealestate.com Open Houses of the Week.

5501 Mahogany Run Court

Plano comes in fifth on the SmartAsset Safest Cities list, but this home at 5501 Mahogany Run Court is a clear winner in style and extravagance.

Listed at $4.9 million, the six-bedroom, seven-bath abode sits on a massive three-acre lot in Willow Bend.

The stunning estate, adjacent to Gleneagles Country Club features exquisite architectural detail and hand-painted murals.

A media room, two game rooms, and a home gym are just a few of the special features that set this home apart from the rest. A chef-inspired kitchen boasts professional-grade appliances. The master bedroom has a fireplace, two separate baths, and a large sitting area.

The new owners will feel like they’re on vacation when they step outside to the pool and spa with a volleyball court, full cabana, fireplace, and outdoor kitchen.

Bonus points for a five-car garage, three utility rooms, and a temperature-controlled attic space.

An 856-square-foot guest house with a large living area, kitchenette, bedroom, and full bath are included.

The SmartAsset report declares that Plano has about 157 violent crimes reported for every 100,000 residents, making it the 17th lowest among 200 cities evaluated for the study.

“I personally live in West Plano and love the ease of access to shopping, restaurants, hospitals, and major toll roads that will take me quickly to my destination,” said Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty’s Nancy Markham. “In addition to the amenities listed above, Plano has several golf courses, parks, and trails and as an owner of three pups, these are essential. The schools are top notch and there are several private schools in the area, too. Colleges are nearby and getting to the airport is a breeze on 121. We really have it all right here.”

12512 Godfrey Drive

It’s well-documented that Frisco is the place to be these days.

In addition to shopping, dining, and golfing, it’s the No. 1 safest city in America, according to SmartAsset.

From the SmartAsset report:

Frisco has the fourth-lowest violent crime rate (95 crimes for every 100,000 residents) and the sixth-lowest property crime rate (901 for every 100,000 residents).

The five-bedroom, five-bath home at 12512 Godfrey Drive sits on an 8,276-square-foot lot in Dominion at Panther Creek, just five miles from the planned Universal Theme Park site.

It features two-story ceilings in the entry and living room. The downstairs office has its own full bath and closet. An eat-in kitchen and a secluded guest suite make this place a welcome retreat for guests.

Upstairs are three bedrooms, two of which have a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with private vanities. A large game room, media room wired for surround sound, and a study loft are also upstairs.

The two-car garage is wired with speakers, and the home includes a rear entry with an electric gate.

The home is listed for $750,000.

Realtor Kimberly Mullins with Keller Williams North Country is hosting an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

709 Long Hill Court

There’s new carpet and fresh paint in this two-story abode at 709 Long Hill Court, McKinney.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is in Glenwood Estates in the North Texas suburb that came in second for safeyon the SmartAsset list.

From the SmartAsset report:

McKinney, which borders Frisco to the east, has the fifth-lowest property crime rate out of all 200 cities in our study. In 2021, about 887 property crimes were reported for every 100,000 residents. This city, with a population of 202,000 people, also has the 10th-lowest violent crime rate (127 for every 100,000 residents).

“I felt safe with my kids walking home from school by themselves,” Acquisto said. “I love that the communities look out for one another. As a Realtor, I see people move here for that lifestyle.”

The $549,766 home includes a cozy sitting area and a formal dining room downstairs. All bedrooms are upstairs, with the master separated from the other three by a large flexible space.

Invite guests to enjoy an enclosed backyard pool with a water feature.

Realtor Joseph Brown with Monument Realty is hosting open houses from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, and Sunday, Feb. 19.
