Few North Texas cities have preserved their historical heritage more than Waxahachie. Though history buffs and architectural junkies flock to the city year-round to get an outward glimpse of its treasured structures, the annual Gingerbread Trail Tour gives visitors a chance to step back in time and step into select homes and buildings for an inside look.

Slated for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, the 51st Annual Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes will spotlight the ornate historic architecture for which Waxahachie is known. Get a peek at Queen Anne Victorian, Gothic Revival, Bungalow, Romanesque, and Greek Revival styles.

Plus, Daltxrealestate.com will be giving away one pair of tickets to the Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes, so stay tuned next week!

The five private homes on the tour are the newly renovated Anderson home at 610 Kaufman Street; the Bailey Home at 513 North Rogers Street; the Cole Home at 115 Kaufman Street; the Lynn Home at 313 Harbin Street; and the Yates home at 626 Kaufman Street.

Tickets can be purchased the day of the Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes at tour homes and at the Ellis County Museum. Prices are $25 for adults and $7 for children ages five to 12, and proceeds from the Gingerbread Trail benefit the museum.

In addition to the home tour, Historic Waxahachie Inc. is offering public tours of the historic Ellis County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday only during Gingerbread Trail tour. This exquisite old building is ranked in the top 20 architecturally significant structures in Texas. While it is the most celebrated historic structure in Waxahachie, it is one of several historic downtown buildings.

The two-day Gingerbread Trail Tour offers plenty of fun for the entire family. Besides live music on the century-old square, award-winning tea rooms, restaurants, antique stores, and specialty shops are within a short walk. From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Ellis County Art Association is sponsoring the “Paint Historic Waxahachie” Show and Sale at ART on the Square Gallery. And Midlothian Classic Wheels is presenting a benefit car show on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Getzendaner Park.

Located off Interstate 35, Waxahachie is only 35 minutes south of Dallas and Fort Worth.
