Historic Home on Live Oak is Still Standing — For Now — But Could Soon Make Way For Multi-Family

A daltxrealestate.com reader sent us these photos yesterday of the home at 4910 Live Oak, the 95-year-old home Adam and Alicia Rico hoped to transform into a chic wedding venue. That was until neighbors of the dilapidated duplex came out in full force against the rezoning effort.

“We knew that the process of zoning takes a while to go through, so we estimated four to five months, knowing that it could be challenging at any point,” Adam said in an earlier story. “But we didn’t expect to run into so much opposition from a few neighborhood associations.”

It was then sold and is now slated for demolition unless preservationists can step in. However, the fate of the property is likely sealed as a permit has already been issued.

Neighbors are now complaining about the state of the property, saying that it has been left unsecured by the current owners.  Homeless people have moved in and are trashing the once stately mansion, they say, leaving behind shopping carts, clothing, and tons of garbage.

You have to wonder if the unintended consequences of opposing the property’s rezoning isn’t going to chafe neighbors even more than a wedding venue. As it stands, the property is zoned MF-2, a medium-density multi-family designation that could accommodate a duplex or townhomes. That could mean more cars and more traffic and noise for sure.
