Winsome Craftsman on Windomere in Winnetka Heights Shows Well in Twilight

There are some homes that are better shown off by twilight, and this is definitely one of them. And with Daylight Saving Time ending this weekend, expect to see more twilight shots in MLS. We don’t mind, though, as long as they look like this stunning two-story Craftsman in the heart of Winnetka Heights.

With that expansive front porch, charming paint, and welcoming curb appeal, you’ll fall hard for this 1925-built home on Windomere, this week’s Friday Five Hundred.

Don’t be put off with how dim it looks in this home. With all of those brilliant leaded glass windows, we’re certain that this home comes off more as a jewel box in person, especially with those beautiful honey-colored wood floors. And the original details! That gorgeous brick fireplace has the most perfect profile and rich, warm patina. We can’t be sure, but it certainly looks like those bricks surrounding the firebox were made by hand.

Now, I am absolutely a proponent of renovating kitchens and baths in historic homes. I know that some people think I’m crazy, but when it’s done right, it feels functional and keeps the character of the home intact. I love this kitchen, which features stainless steel appliances and a beautiful Bertazzoni range, plus very trendy brushed gold fixtures and period-style lighting work especially well in this context. The marble floors and copious subway tile — I mean, that’s a lot of subway tile! — add just the right amount of line and structure. Eschewing upper cabinetry keeps this petite kitchen from feeling claustrophobic. And don’t ignore that beautiful penny tile on the floor of the breakfast area. Isn’t that stunning?

There are four bedrooms and two full baths in this 2,214-square-foot home, but we’re particularly taken by the upstairs master, which features tons of windows offering views of the treetops. In the master bath there’s beautiful hex tile on the floors, a vintage pedestal tub, a sleek double vanity topped by marble and vessel sink, trimmed with beautiful gold fixtures. It’s absolutely romantic with the addition of the stained-glass window.

And the romance continues to the backyard, which could easily play host to gatherings of all sizes with a patio and deck. And just a bit further out you’ll see the guest quarters, which are not included in the total square-footage of the home. This home at 200 N. Windomere, marketed by Ged Dipprey of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, is on the market for $550,000 and we’re absolutely smitten! What about you?
