White Rock Lake Task Force Seeks Public Input on Master Plan

Most Dallasites agree that White Rock Lake Park is a regional treasure. Now they want to get it in writing and plan for the future.

A meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Winfrey Point (950 E. Lawther Drive) to provide input on the White Rock Lake Park Master Plan and hear updates on the project.

The 1,015-acre White Rock Lake was built in 1911 and is recognized as one of the most heavily-used parks in Dallas.

The master plan project aims to document the history of previous master plans and reports, gather input on desired goals and park program considerations, consolidate plans and program items, and update appropriate design standards and guidelines.

A 2009 White Rock Lake Park Lighting Master Plan and Design Guidelines and a 2011 White Rock Lake Mockingbird Dog Park Study are listed on the City of Dallas master plan webpage, but a draft of the current comprehensive proposal has not been publicized.

Dallas Parks and Recreation senior engineer Richard Stauffer is listed as the staff contact for the project, but could not immediately be reached for comment. Betty Dunagan of the White Rock Lake Task Force also could not be reached to provide more information about Tuesday’s public meeting.

District 9 Councilwoman Paula Blackmon, who represents the White Rock Lake area, has said that the master plan is key in securing 2024 bond funds for the area.
