When the seasons change, it’s a great time to do some home maintenance. Your house goes through different seasonal wear-and-tear, and it’s a good idea to clean up the old season and prepare for the new one.

Here are a few examples of things that need a spring tune-up around your home.

Actual Spring Cleaning

A disorganized storage area like this one makes it pretty hard for us to inspect certain things — like here, we couldn’t get to the panel box. But having a garage, attic, or another area chock full of storage can be dangerous and unsanitary.

Piles of boxes, clothes, papers, etc are very attractive to rodents and other pests. Spills or leaks could go undetected and cause mold or other damage, and this kind of clutter also presents a fire hazard. So organizing your storage space is a great place to start your spring checklist.

Inspect Outdoor Water Fixtures

Spring brings new life, and higher water bills as we attempt to help that new life grow. We encourage homeowners to do a quick inspection of all their outdoor water fixtures at the beginning of the season to find any potential leaks or loose parts.

Check Your Sprinklers

If you have a sprinkler system, go through each head to make sure they’re all functioning and pointed in the correct direction. Sprinkler heads can get all wonky during the winter, and you may catch some broken or leaking lines that need repair.

Have Your AC Serviced

It’s a good idea to have your HVAC serviced when you switch between heat and AC. A clean, efficient system will keep you cooler and keep your energy bills down, and regular service will keep things like this from happening.
