In this column, we often look at common problems we see as home inspectors to help educate homeowners, home buyers, and real estate professionals about things to look out for around the house. We also like to share the OMG, LOL, and WTF moments that we have because we love to laugh.

It’s not that often that a home inspector can say, “I have never seen that before,” but when they do, it’s definitely worth sharing.

Toilet Tank Ice Sculpture

Bless them for getting a shot of this. So this is not actually that uncommon, if you have an outdoor toilet or one that’s in a space that’s not heated like a shed or garage. During a hard freeze like we had last week, the water in the tank froze, and because water expands when it freezes, the porcelain tank cracked. These homeowners with a great sense of humor cleared away the broken tank and took a moment to capture this awesomeness.

Speaking of a great sense of humor, never-have-we-ever seen a better water stain coverup. Bravo.

Gas Meter Has Roots

You see roots, shrubs, or other plants growing too close to gas meters all the time. But think about the YEARS this tree has been growing around the meter without someone thinking this could be problematic.

Confusing Door

This one might take you a minute…

If this guy had a house, all his doors would look that way. 😂
