The stunning University Park Tudor at 3325 Rankin St. is a thing of beauty, and it’s one of our five featured open houses this week.

The Internet is a beautiful thing when it comes to house hunting. But there’s no substitute for stepping foot in a home and seeing what it has to offer. That’s why we love open houses, and our CandysDirt Open Houses of the Week column was created to bring you an insider’s take on properties you don’t want to miss.

Open house: Sunday, May 1, 1-3 p.m.

We’re starting this open house roundup with a jaw-dropping Tudor at 3325 Rankin St. in University Park. It’s a 3-3 with an additional half bathroom and 2,531 square feet, built in 1932 near Lovers Lane and Hillcrest Road. This home received a historic home award from Preservation Park Cities, and the kitchen remodel was featured in Better Homes & Gardens.

This unique open floorplan home exudes character, and the historic details are married flawlessly with modern updates. The home was updated in 2010, with 900 square feet added by More Design + Build. There’s a welcoming sunroom near the entry, and a front living room with a wood-burning fireplace; vaulted, beamed ceiling, and skylight. This home is flooded with natural light in every room. The kitchen is huge and modern, with red cabinetry, gas cooktop, on-trend open shelving and white subway tile, and stainless steel appliances, including a built-in wine refrigerator. Separate guest quarters consist of a bedroom on one side and office space on the other, and the square footage of this space is not counted in the home’s 2,531 square feet. Energy efficient features include 12-inch attic insulation, insulated doors, low-e windows, and a tankless water heater.

It was listed April 25 by Beverly Pitchford with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty for $1.025 million.

Open house: Sunday, May 1, 2-4 p.m.

The C-Streets cottage at 6831 Clayton Ave. is a charming Tudor, a 3-2 with 2,244 square feet, built in 1918 and a half block from Lakewood Country Club. It’s a coveted neighborhood.

This home’s curb appeal is appealing, with its brick facade and gently curving roofline. The home preserves its period charm with renovations that have expanded the original footprint and made it great for modern living. The front living room has an original fireplace flanked by built-ins with original leaded glass. Hardwood floors extend through the living room, dining room, and bedrooms. The hall bathroom was remodeled in 2014 with a crisp gray-white palette, and the master is updated with a new bathroom, as well, and two closets. French doors lead from the master to a large second living area with views of the backyard. The kitchen is renovated with granite countertops and new stainless steel appliances, including a Viking commercial range-hood. All windows are recently replaced, too, and there’s an attached carport.

It was listed yesterday by Beth Borman with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate for $579,000.

Open house: Sunday, May 1, 1-3 p.m.

The house at 9424 Sherwood Gln. is truly a rare find in Dallas—it was designed by architect Leon Wilensky to replicate a centuries-old Pennsylvania Dutch farmhouse. This home is a 6-4 with two additional half baths and 4,006 square feet, built in 1968, located near Ferguson Road and North Buckner Boulevard in the Lake and Garden District.

It sits on a half acre in Sherwood Glen Estates overlooking the pristine setting of Ash Creek. The house has a brick walkway and pond in front, with new French windows and a covered porch.

Inside, there’s a stone floor and custom crafted staircase, and the two story living room is accented by inlaid brick floors and a cobblestone wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen has a farmhouse-authentic marble pastry board area and built-in buffet. All bedrooms are generous in size and two split bedrooms, a full bath, and kitchenette have access to the rest of the home, but also have a separate entrance—perfect mother-in-law suite. Car buffs will appreciate the two-car attached garage ad carriage house equipment with three bays, one with two-story height for lift, a half bath, and upper level living space ideal for a guest suite. The yard has a wood deck, landscaping, mature trees, and a swimming pool.

It was listed April 25 by Jenny Capritta with Re/Max DFW Associates for $639,950.
