Thursday Three Hundred: Contemporary in Little Forest Hills Features Big Windows, Tall Ceilings

By now you know the motto of East Dallas’ weirdest neighborhood: “Keep Little Forest Hills Funky.” In this neighborhood that reminds most people of Austin, you’ll find tiny cottages and bungalows with low ceilings and wood siding. Some of them have been added on, some have been remodeled, and some have been renovated inside and out. But the neighborhood remains a bastion of diversity in taste and architecture.

That’s what’s so remarkable about 8630 Angora: It’s so very different from what you’d expect to find in Little Forest Hills. This two-bedroom, two-bathroom 1980s soft contemporary has high ceilings, big windows, and open spaces — all a far cry from the typical cottage lining the hilly streets of the neighborhood.

But that’s not a bad thing, folks. This home is still very, very cool, with a corner window that gives a panoramic view of the backyard, and allows tons of light to filter in through the canopy of trees above. This lovely 1,681-square-foot home is marketed by Donald Wright for $339,000 and has the perfect floorplan for an artist or art collector.

The living room and kitchen areas are the rooms with the most natural light, a feature you’ll appreciate in spring and winter. The home has a great brick fireplace, too, and a kitchen with a beautiful tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances (save for the dishwasher), and a breakfast bar that opens to the dining area.

The master bedroom is spacious and well-lit, but the master bath is the area I’d put some work into. The vanity, which only has one sink and a decidedly traditional cabinet front, would look so much better with something a bit more modern and edgy. And what about putting in a soaking tub and a separate shower? The room is big enough to accommodate both.

The patio is a great space for entertaining, and your kids (or fur kids!) will love the back lawn. It’s a fantastic home with a great location and is close to all the cool amenities that White Rock Lake offers.
