This Stevens Park Estates Midcentury Is Exceptional. And Elevated.

Stevens Park Estates is easily one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Dallas. Custom homes, gentle hills, gorgeous topography, and a public golf course right in the middle of it all. It’s called Little Augusta and Little Gem because where else do you find a public course that pretty? Oak Cliff. That’s where.

There’s a home on the market that is a true midcentury, taken to the studs by the previous owner who also happened to be an architect. They’re always ahead of their time, aren’t they? The remodel was completed seven or eight years ago, but the architect had the wherewithal to add a herringbone pattern in the bathroom. Like I said, two steps ahead.

Beck Realty’s Crystal Gonzalez lives just around the corner, so she knows this area well. She also had considerable insight into this single story at 2014 Mayflower Drive. It’s a classic midcentury – unassuming on the front, but once you reach the back, there’s lots of glass overlooking an incredible backyard. The lot is unique and the home sits up high, giving it a treehouse feel. The tiered backyard is covered in artificial grass, so it stays green all year long and also, helps control those little idiot mosquitos that are currently wrecking all our lives.

One thing Gonzalez said – that I loved so much – was how this house feels intimate and cozy. Once you step inside, you’re in your own little world. It’s also very well-defined and not one big room we’re seeing so much of today. Gonzalez noted that with the no walls, open floor plan trend, it feels like you instantly know everything about the homeowner, but with this bad boy, there’s still an air of mystery. Also, she did not call it a bad boy THOUGH IT IS.

What else is there to love about this one? Everything. But a few things we just HAVE to call out are the two living areas plus two primary suites. All the paint colors are so perfect and muted and very midcentury. Everything in this house feels very of the era, but with a modern touch. Like the blonde wood cabinets in the kitchen with the perfectly understated door pulls. And don’t get me started on that built-in breakfast bench.

If you’d like to take a tour, stop by the Open House Saturday, June 19, from 1 to 3 p.m.
