Rejuvenated and move-in-ready, this Fairmount classic built in 1924 has been renovated from top to bottom. The Fairmount National Historic District has been the focus of such near-fanatical devotion that fixer-uppers are fast becoming thin on the ground and move-in ready is becoming the new norm.

Frankly, I was captivated by this bungalow at 1507 Fairmount Avenue when I saw it on a drive-by. With its confident color scheme in fashionable French blue, it’s a stunning stand-out. The porch is perfection with the smooth floorboards in perfect alignment to the standard of the best interior hardwoods.

Inside, the floor plan has been completely given a modern rework. Though the open concept may offend purists, the result is a lovely, light-drenched space with the original Queen Anne-style windows retained and restored.

Opening up the plan allowed for a spacious, entertainment-friendly kitchen with a large island/bar with a quartz waterfall surface. The snazzy turquoise tiles are cement. And there is even a full laundry room with a vintage stained glass window.

This is Fairmount after all, right?

I’m told that COVID lockdowns have forced many a family to rethink open concept. Not to worry. This 2,100-square-foot, four-bedroom, two-and-one-half-bath bungalow has many private spaces like this quiet TV sitting room on the first floor.

Three of the bedrooms are on ground level with an attic bedroom on the second floor. Space has been so ingeniously exploited that an ample four-piece master bath with a large shower stall was cleverly carved out.

Best of all, the 2018 renovation tackled all of the expensive and unseen stuff. Plumbing, electric, and a new HVAC system — as well as a tankless water heater and spray foam insulation — have brought the residence up to modern standards. The quiet backyard is rather large by Fairmount standards.
