This Peninsula Cottage Is The Ultimate Artist Escape

The Peninsula is such a wonderful, not-at-all-secret spot in East Dallas. There are about 280 homes and as the ultimate no-duh, it’s named The Peninsula because it’s shaped like one. It doesn’t literally jut out into the lake, but again, shape, plus its proximity to White Rock Lake.

The neighborhood is small and cozy and oh-so prestigious. Would live there times 100. And the architectural styles are all over the place, so there’s something for everyone. From super-cute 1940s cottages to big ol’ recently constructed modern homes, it’s a real smorgasbord of sizes.

Now this one is a 1,883-square-foot charmer, and it’s just right. It’s not too big, not too small and it’s freaking gorgeous inside and out. It’s set on almost one-third of an acre and there’s a huge screened-in porch out back so you can look out over your weeping willows, vegetable gardens, and resort-style pool.

It’s one of those lovely rambling backyards you expect to see near the lake. A perfect mix of established trees, natural stone, and Corten steel steps is carved into the landscape. UGH. So freaking perfect.

There’s an artist studio, home office or flex space in the back as well and it’s all clicking now. Total artist’s home. Just look at the pink wall in the breakfast nook or the layered wallpaper wall in the one bedroom. What a killer idea — a big swath of painted wall bordered by a pop of patterned wallpaper. Speaking of art, the Bathhouse Cultural Center is on the edge of the neighborhood.

Red Oak flooring is in most of the home. Bead board wainscoting, stained glass windows, and the original telephone nook round out the charm. The kitchen is open and surprisingly spacious with white cabinets, coordinating bead board backing on the open shelving, a generous island, and concrete countertops.

This house is so special. It’s one where the owners didn’t stick with one rigid style. They mixed modern with vintage and I’ve already said perfect about 10 times, but here’s one more. It’s perfect. The arched trellis over the front door, the landscaping, the finish out inside, and that freaking chandelier. It’s really really beautiful.
