This Chris Sandlin Home in Midway Hollow Reveals Wood-Laden MCM Design Inside

If you’ve driven through Midway Hollow, you’ve seen Chris Sandlin Homes. In this well-established neighborhood, their homes, like the one at 3729 Manana Dr., are the striking new builds you see with cool white brick and black trim that trace the lines of their sharp gables beautifully.

This modern transitional style is what first enamors homeowners with Chris Sandlin’s work, and why the custom home builder has been absolutely slammed with contracts for teardowns by homeowners. In fact, he’s built 10 homes in Midway Hollow over the past few years and he’s got more on the way, Sandlin says.

They’re award-winning homes, too. The ARC awards committee at the Dallas Builders Association awarded Sandlin with five accolades including Custom Home of the Year, Best Architectural Design, Best Curb Appeal, Best Living Space, and Best Interior Design.

But there’s real substance behind those awards. As a third-generation home builder, Sandlin has the knack for building quality luxury homes that are full of thought and integrity.

“I’ve sold many many homes for him and I’ve never received one single call from an agent or owner saying something was broken,” says Dave Perry-Miller agent Rachel Norris. “You don’t understand, that’s major! I think that’s because he’s very thoughtful about design and wants to make sure the owners are happy on every tier of the home-building experience.”

Now one of Sandlin’s newest homes full of his travel-derived eye for design at 3729 Manana is complete and move-in ready, Norris says.

We’ve talked about the crisp and clean aesthetic of the exterior, but the interior truly is something. Sandlin is known for creating gorgeous custom touches throughout each of his homes, and it seems like no two homes are alike. Let me show you what I mean.

Here’s the modern wine niche. It features custom metal shelving for bottle storage, gorgeous lighting, and a bold black and gold wallpaper I think that admittedly plays tricks on your eyes. It’s located just off the entryway as you approach the kitchen, and the way it glows, this wine closet is like a beacon or more accurately, a siren, calling visitors to it.

This black and gold theme is repeated throughout the home and gives it a modern Midcentury Modern flavor. It’s like an architectural contemporary take on the Danish walnut furniture you’d likely furnish this home with today — or in the ’50s.

You’ll find brushed gold hardware and muted black quartz tile on the fireplace and bathroom walls laid vertically instead of a more common horizontal pattern. Also, take note of the custom walnut and white oak wood features in the bathroom and throughout the home. That was intentionally prominent, Sandlin says, adding that he’s been excited to bring those walnut wood colors back into the home.

“The primary bathroom seems to be a hidden surprise,” Norris says. “With the walnut cabinetry, it just gives off an elegant hotel feel when you walk in. That’s how a primary should be — an escape from the hustle and a spa-like experience just for you.”

All these features coalesce into a beautiful Midcentury Modern-inspired transitional in Midway Hollow.

In total, the 4,200-square-foot home has five bedrooms — or four bedrooms and a study — with five en-suite bathrooms spread over two stories.

It’s located in Midway Hollow, which of course, is HOT HOT HOT and in the heart of the private school corridor.

“This home has everything,” Norris says. “It’s a gorgeous, chic home that’s very very well-built. The floorplan flows beautifully and is full of design surprises throughout. I mean, the slat tray ceiling in the dining room is absolutely regal. That’s the kind of things you’ll find in Chris Sandlin homes.”

Rachel Norris of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate has listed 3729 Manana Drive for $1.725 million.
