When home shopping in Dallas, it’s almost inevitable that Lakewood comes up.
The neighborhood, which is generally located within the 75214 ZIP code, has a tremendous variety of architecture and scale. It’s an area that has seen builders come in and tear down small cottages built in the 1920s when nearby White Rock Lake was a country home destination for Dallas’ elite families and construct gorgeous moderns, Tudors, Mediterraneans, and more.
But as buyers surely know, prices inside this highly sought-after East Dallas enclave have skyrocketed in recent years. What was once priced below $1 million in Lakewood now goes for $1.5 million — or more. In this week’s Open House Roundup, we focus on homes that are priced around the $1 million mark. You can tour them all this weekend and tell us which is your favorite.
Stately Stone-Embellished Tudor With Knocked-Out Primary Suite on Gaston Avenue
Open House: Saturday, March 27, 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 28, 1 to 4 p.m.
This historic Lakewood home was built in 1929 and upgraded in 2008. As Candy noted when this property was on the market in 2019, this home has been knocked out.
Additional improvements were made in 2018, including a restored slate roof. But every charming, aesthetic and architectural element worth saving from the original home was saved and cherished. So the home has wonderful formals, as homes back then did, but also a modern, open floor plan (great for entertaining) in the more casual living areas.
All four bedrooms are upstairs, including a bonus room that can be a fifth bedroom. The primary suite is huge and comes with not only a sitting area but also a coffee bar. There are a total of three full bathrooms and one half bath in this 4,000-square-foot stone-embellished Tudor. As Candy noted, the first floor is open and makes for great entertaining, with a kitchen and living space that opens up to a large backyard with a covered patio.
Adding further to this home’s appeal, there’s basement access with built-in wine storage. And if you like views, you can see the downtown Dallas skyline and the Lakewood Country Club golf course from your front porch.

Treehouse Views And Natural Light Define This Soft Contemporary on Delrose
Open House: Sunday, March 28, 2 to 4 p.m.
Delrose is such a fantastic street in Lakewood. Located just two-and-a-half blocks from Lakewood Elementary, this street features tons of mature trees, making you feel like you’re in the middle of an urban forest. And this particular soft contemporary benefits from its location on the creek side of Delrose, making it exceptionally private.
That’s good news for those who want to enjoy the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout this 1976-built home without worrying about fussy window dressings that would take away from the soaring 20-foot ceilings that overlook the backyard.
As the listing agent notes, this home has been maintained extremely well, and is outfitted in a rather timeless fashion for a home built 45 years ago. There are three bedrooms, two full and one half bath, and 2,817 square feet. To be honest, the views from this home are reason enough to buy it, but if you’re still on the fence, take a minute to imagine working from home from the library or the private office upstairs.

Don’t Miss Touring This Quirky-Cool Austin Stone Sanctuary
Open House: Sunday, March 28, 1 to 3 p.m.
Sometimes a home just has a vibe, you know? This particular Lakewood home has a very strong Bohemian vibe that comes with some seriously quirky finishes. If I’m honest, I love this house and I’d attend the Sunday open house just for entertainment value and maybe put in a bid.
So, what constitutes as quirky? I mean, did you see the dark purple front door? Inside, the furniture is groovy and fun, and there’s a semiprecious amethyst insert in the countertop to help infuse your artisan tea with positive energy.
Or something like that.
But if you really want to see “quirky,” head upstairs to the owner’s suite — specifically the bathroom.
Yes, the enormous shower is ensconced in a curved, glass brick enclosure. But you don’t realize just how large the shower is until you’re in it. How is it possible that the shower itself extends beyond the room? How is it bigger on the inside? Is there some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff going on in there? Is it actually a TARDIS?
No, it’s CANTILEVERED. Over the back deck! With a turret roof!
See the rest for yourself and report back. We want to know everything about this four-bedroom, two-bath Lakewood sanctuary of good vibes!
