Brants Lane — across from Luther Lake and within walking distance to Ridglea Hills Country Club — is sited in such a choice location in Ridglea Hills that more than a few of its residents are the second generation of the original owners. Built in 1954, 6720 Brants Lane is loaded with 3,590 square feet of midcentury, high-style panache, and has been given a stunning, stylish makeover by Fort Worth Friday friend Terri West.
The singular floor plan is foreshadowed by the oblique wings to the left at front. This establishes a unique, interesting flow and flexibility, with rooms capable of multiple adaptations.
“This wasn’t so much a remodel as a clean-up and rework,” says Terri West. “A lot of deferred infrastructure was dealt with, like new HVAC, electrical work, new energy-efficient windows, resurfacing the pool — you know, the boring but expensive stuff you don’t see.”
West has engaged a first-class team to show this midcentury beauty off to its best advantage. Our favorite stager, Tina McMackin, has orchestrated an interior space of elegance and clean simplicity. Landscaping was managed by Jennifer Renta.
Among the “expensive stuff” West shouldered was an update and renovation of the kitchens and the house’s three-and-one-half baths. Cabinetry and surfaces shimmer with a subtle silvery oyster, and 18-inch-tall glass tiles seamlessly reach cabinet height. Counter tops are quartz. The appliances are brand new GE stainless. The brick paver floors are original but the hardwood floors have been lightened.
The family room lies at the end of a zig-zag enfilade. An additional window was added to create a a wall of glass. Among the “clean ups” was the removal of colonial trim out of sync with the house’s modern vibe.
All three bedrooms are connected by one long corridor in the left wing of the house. The master suite is at the end, which places it at the front of the house. Terri West borrowed from wasted space to create a proper master bath with a closet of contemporary dimensions.
The large gallery room was once the garage enclosed to create a playroom for the former owners children. The step-down adds height to the room. What appears to be polished concrete floors is actually over-scale tiles. I’m starting to tire of rusticated barn doors. Here, their space saving quality is exploited with modern flair.
Cocktails by the pool anyone? OK, the desert mountains are missing, but the ambiance is definitely Palm Springs, low-key glam. Parking is on the driveway but there is space for a porte cochere for covered parking in front.
