Jay Yancey Gave This Elmwood Midcentury Modern The Makeover it Truly Deserved

This home got tremendous buzz this past summer when it hit the market and sold in five days. But things are about to get even buzzier around here.

Back in June, it was a *little* rough, but the roofline and the architecture were there. It just needed, you know, a complete gut job. Which just so happens to be Jay Yancey’s specialty.

Yancey is exceptionally meticulous with his remodels, designing to a level you’d typically only find in million-dollar homes. The thing is, he loves a smaller footprint, like this one at 1702 Elmwood Boulevard.

It was only 1,076 square feet when Yancey purchased it and he’s since beefed it up to 1,628. Dave Perry-Miller’s Jason Saucedo said the best part? Almost all of that went into the primary suite. It’s BIG with a killer walk-in closet and a new en suite bathroom with double vanity and mega shower.

This house is so special it’s impossible to capture everything, but just a few of the highlights are the broken terracotta backsplash in the kitchen – a nod to the midcentury era when this home was originally constructed, the smoothest of smooth museum finished walls with fiberglass batts for soundproofing PLUS SPRAY FOAM INSULATION in all ceilings including the one that separates the split level.

The roof is commercial grade and the plumbing and electrical were replaced. Yancey added all-new fixtures from Herman Miller, Kohler, and Grohe plus Baldwin doors and new thermal storefront windows.

Windows you never have to cover, by the way, thanks to the custom cedar and steel fence. That leaves all those gorgeous windows open for natural light and stunning views.

“The lot overlooks a creek, which makes every window look like a work of art with a lush canopy of mature trees,” says Saucedo.

It’s on a corner lot, people. Like how great is a house when we’re just now mentioning the gorgeous lot, that was also recently hardscaped? Hardscaped? LINGO. That means decking, walking paths, etc.

OH, and back to the kitchen, that’s leathered granite in there with custom rift-cut oak cabinetry. Does Yancey have a thing for oak? Maybe. Because all that new gorgeous flooring is also white oak. Can we talk about the pure joy of a single floor throughout, too? It makes everything feel big and open and seamless, not chop-chop-choppy. It’s the look you’re going for, trust me.

New HVAC, too. And fresh sod. Like really, are you kidding me? This is basically 2021 construction with the delightful look of that sweet bygone era.

If you’d like to take a look at 1702 Elmwood — which is listed for $585,000 — Saucedo is hosting an open house on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m.
