Jerry Mooty started posting about his upcoming career move in a June 5th Facebook post:

Big announcement in the near future. Been biting my lip but very excited. #realestateservices

Two weeks later, the news was out. He was joining Rogers Healy and Associates as Director of Strategy, a new position that will contribute to the company’s full scope of business development activities.

We spoke with Mooty soon after he received his Texas real estate license.

Mooty studied for his real estate exam while sheltering in place.

“There’s not a lot of licensed attorneys who are also licensed real estate brokers. I have a checkerboard of experience, from legal to real estate to technology. I think that will be very helpful in determining who my client base is going to be,” he says.

The opportunity came about organically. Earlier this year, Mooty was wrapping up a consulting gig for a Silicon Valley tech company. Contemplating what to do next, he sat down with Healy to get his advice.

“I’d always had real estate in mind.”

“I’ve known Rogers going on 20 years,” he says. “We determined that joining his team, with all the different divisions — residential, commercial, global relocation, and property management — would be a good fit for my skill set.”

Along with his legal expertise, Mooty will come in from a business intelligence angle. Forming key partnerships is an important part of the platform.

“With more people working from home, conducting business is going to be a lot more strategic, from how you build relationships to what you can offer clients from an efficiency standpoint. Most businesses, not just real estate, are putting people in place that can help streamline the work flow,” he says.

Mooty is bullish about the DFW real estate market.

“Things are moving quickly because of how strong the economy has been in North Texas over the last four or five years,” he says.

The relocation sector of the business is especially appealing. Mooty predicts an upswing in people moving to the Dallas area from both coasts.

“From a business perspective, you look at all the companies moving to the Metroplex.” he says. “I’m really impressed with Rogers Healy’s ability to put together a global real estate eco-system.”

One target market: professional athletes. (His uncle is Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.)

“Even though the future of sports is uncertain, players are still going to get traded from team to team and have to move their families,” he says.

Mooty is ready for the next chapter of his multi-faceted career.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Rogers Healy and his team of professionals. It’s exciting to get back in the real estate world.”

We asked. Mooty answered.

Describe yourself in a few words: Funny. Entrepreneurial. Business savvy.

What did you miss most while sheltering in place? Socializing. I’m a firm believer it’s a huge way to generate new business.

What’s on your bucket list? Getting my kids through college. (Fun fact: Son Val, an aspiring singer/songwriter, is slated to sing the Spanish opening theme for the Netflix series, “Narcos.”)

Dream house? In the mountains in Aspen.

Best advice you’ve ever given: Do what you love. It makes a huge difference in your day.
