Cochran Heights is a wonderfully central Dallas neighborhood, walking distance to all the pleasures of the Knox-Henderson area with quick access to Central Expressway, making it minutes from downtown Dallas. Development started in the 1940s and many older homes are being renovated for maximum enjoyment.

In this week’s Splurge vs Steal, we’re looking at two houses in Cochran Heights that description. Which one is your favorite?

The traditional-style home at 5211 Milam St. is spacious and inviting, expanded and rebuilt in 1995 and updated again in 2017. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living areas, a study, and 3,369 square feet on two stories, built in 1940.

The landscaping is professionally done by Robert Bellamy Design and the entryway has dramatic 12-foot ceilings and is close to the formal living formal living room and an elegant dining room with Italian fabric upholstering the walls and a private patio. Inside, you’ll find arched doorways, hand-scraped hardwood floors, recessed lights, and vaulted ceiling. The front living area is anchored by a fireplace and is close to the kitchen, with its custom wood cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and large breakfast bar. The master suite has vaulted ceilings and an ensuite bath with a large bathtub and separate shower.
