First developed in the mid 1950s, the Disney Streets in Northwest Dallas are named after Walt Disney characters and places, such as Pinocchio Drive, Cinderella Lane, and Wonderland Trail. It is part of the larger Midway Hills neighborhood, where you can find some fantastic architectural examples of that era, including a home from celebrated architect Cliff May.
This week’s Splurge vs Steal takes us to the Disney Streets to look at two houses. Which one is your favorite?
SPLURGE: FIVE-BEDROOM RANCH ON OVER 1/3 ACRE WITH POOL
The inviting ranch-style house at 3823 Princess Ln. is a classic, filled with beautiful updates and sitting on a large lot, 0.32 acres near Royal and Marsh lanes. This home has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, one half bath, three living areas, two dining areas, and 3,995 square feet on one story, built in 1971.
The foyer is flanked by a study with built-ins and a formal dining area. The family room impresses with vaulted, beamed ceilings and large windows overlooking the backyard with its swimming pool, landscaping, and outdoor living area with kitchen. Love that fireplace. The kitchen has high-end stainless steel appliances, including a gas range and Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezer, as well as white cabinets and granite countertops. A private master suite also opens to the backyard through French doors and has a sitting area, decorative lighting, and a gorgeous master bath with dual vanities, soaking tub, oversized walk-in shower with frameless glass, water closet with bidet, custom master closet, and a skylight.
This home was listed Sept. 10 by Michelle Wood with Compass Real Estate for $975K, reduced to $899,000.
STEAL: TWO-STORY HOUSE WITH BIG UPDATES ON ALMOST HALF AN ACRE
Half a mile away from our splurge, you’ll find a hugely updated house at 10812 Aladdin Dr. that’s one of the newer kids in the Disney Streets, built in 1994. Our steal has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, one half bath, three living areas, two dining areas, and 3,509 square feet on two stories, sitting on 0.4 acres near Royal Lane and Midway Road.
The entryway has double-height ceilings and is flanked by a formal living area with fireplace and formal dining room. A second living area off the kitchen has another fireplace and hardwoods run throughout the common spaces and in the bedrooms. The kitchen has a Sub-Zero refrigerator, GE Monogram stove, plus double ovens, as well as white cabinets and an island. All bedrooms have ensuite baths and in the master, there is a jetted tub. There is also a downstairs guest room that is being used as a home office. Upstairs is a game room and two guest suites, plus a study nook. The back patio has recently been freshened with an arbor and landscaping.
This home was listed July 29 by Valerie Orr with Dallas City Center Realtors for $799,750, reduced to $745,000.
