Sometimes It’s What You Don’t See That Makes a Home So Special

The special thing about homes is how a seemingly innocuous feature can mean so much to its owner. Take homeowners Curtis and Tara Westbrook, for example.

When they first toured the Fort Worth home at 4805 Selkirk Drive, he had a vision of himself happily cooking in the kitchen while friends and family talked and laughed, wandering in and around the kitchen on their way to the living room, dining room, or playroom. Maybe they’d separate the dining room into one part dining and one part playroom.

Those visions came true when they purchased the home.

A Kitchen With a View

Curtis said you can never underestimate the ability to cook dinner and look over the breakfast bar to keep tabs on the kids. He said when they were crawlers, the ability to keep them contained was huge. Dinner depended on it.

Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Int’l. Realty’s Ashley Mooring says the kitchen is naturally a huge selling point, calling it the heart of this home.

This 2,027-square-foot home is updated, open-concept, and spacious. The home’s three bedrooms are split, which gives Mom and Dad a little privacy. There’s a massive screened-in porch on the back and three separate backyards which is ideal for having a dog and kids. Everyone has their own space. Just like inside.

Curtis’s Favs

There is so much to love about this home, especially the finish out, the fixtures, and storage space. The kitchen, of course, is one of Curtis’s favorite parts of the home.

But at 6’4”, another of Curtis’ favorites is the shower in the primary bathroom. It’s a rain shower and he can actually shower without squatting so that’s a bit of a hallelujah moment right there.

Tara’s Favs

Tara went to Texas Christian University, where she and Curtis are football season ticket holders. This home’s proximity to campus is amazing, just 2.6 miles away. So, biking to the games and campus has been one of their favorite things. They’ll miss it and aren’t entirely sure how they’ll feel about taking a car. BOOOO.

One thing Tara has come to appreciate more than she could have initially imagined is the laundry room. It’s separate, spacious, has cabinets, and a sink. A sink for treating, soaking, and rinsing stains. When you have two active little kids, having a strong stain treatment game is imperative.

The home has lived up to the couple’s expectations and more. Curtis and Tara have loved hosting friends and family — yes, while Curtis cooks. And the entertaining has come easy, though Curtis and Tara never got around to splitting that playroom into a dining room because as we all know, toys takeover.

They have absolutely loved their time here, but with a third baby on the way it’s time to move on. There is so much they’ll miss about this super cute house.

I love the practical side of why we love our homes. It’s the little things that you don’t always consider or appreciate until we have it. Or until we don’t because I’ll tell you right now, I’m in it for that utility sink.

Mooring has 4805 Selkirk Drive priced very competitively at $399,999.
