I have a great idea! HGTV should make a TV show where they take a total clunker of a home and turn it back to its original greatness … they could call it “Revival House” or something like that. (Of course I would star in the show, too!)
The first episode would feature the home located at 3771 West 4th Street in the beautiful neighborhood of Monticello in Fort Worth.
When the Seller of this charming 1,520-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bathroom home first bought it, it was … well … shall we say politely … it was in need of a drastic revival!
Enter At Your Own Risk
The exterior of the cottage was overgrown with ivy and vegetation where you could barely see the home. Shrubs were out of control, trees needed removing — and that’s exactly what happened.
The interior of the home both cosmetically and under the surface were horrible! The decor was a mixture of Santa Fe Eclectic (I made that style up) and Pack Rat Du Jour (I made that style up, too). Rooms were lifeless, walls were dark, and there had to be something alive in the kitchen!
After an extensive 12-plus month revival, 3771 West 4th Street isn’t even the same house! The original schoolhouse plank hardwood floors were refinished, and added in the kitchen. All walls were stripped of the plaster and goopy texture and original shiplap from the 1930s was discovered.
New plumbing was installed, electrical wiring and fixtures were brought up to code, and a completely new HVAC system was installed.
What’s That Cooking?
The kitchen was completely demolished and reconfigured to allow for an open feel that flows naturally into the dining area and family room.
The Revival Continues
There’s so much to tell you about the revival of this fantastic home situated in a highly desired neighborhood. The rooms, the lights, the bathroom, the den, the newly created utility room — the list goes on and on — but you’re just going to have to see it in person.

If there were a TV show called “Plant Hoarders” then this home would win the Emmy! Not to worry. Just like the exterior and interior, this yard was returned to a state where owners can relax and enjoy the home.
