Texas Relocation Report says Texas and California have a direct pipeline to one another. (MoveON moving)

It’s not surprising where a good portion of Texas’ new residents are coming from — California. But it’s a two-way street. California is the top out-of-state relocation destination for people moving out of Texas.

The thing is, about double the number of Californians moved to Texas.

That was among the findings in the 2021 edition of the Texas Realtors Texas Relocation Report, which analyzes the latest available migration data from the U.S. Census Bureau and U-Haul.

Texas was measured as U-Haul’s second-ranked growth state during the 2019 reporting period. Based on 2019 data, Texas ranked second in the U.S. for relocation activity. The state welcomed between 537,000 to 528,000 new residents — the seventh consecutive year Texas gained more than 500,000 new residents.

The Census also estimated 435,000 to 471,000 Texans moved to other states, yielding a net gain of approximately 100,000 people. Texas also welcomed approximately 192,000 to 222,000 new residents from outside the United States in 2019.

By county, the report cited estimates from U.S. Census Flower Mapper data from 2014 to 2018. The report included Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties.

Dallas County had the most outgoing and incoming residents in Collin, Denton, and Tarrant counties. Dallas County had 15,284 residents moving to Tarrant County, 13,742 moving to Collin County, and 9,826 to Denton County.

Dallas ranked 18th among U-Haul Destination Cities. Fort Worth was 25th and Plano 27th.

Report review: The report is based on data from the 2019 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau and the 2020 U-Haul National Migration Trend Report. The report analyzes county relocation data of nine demographic areas in Texas. It’s an easy-to-read PDF report loaded with information and worth reviewing. Rating: Two rabbit-hole bunnies 🐇 🐇
