A Regent’s Park Townhouse Downton Abbey’s Lady Edith Would Love

Downton Abbey’s Lady Edith would be right at home in this Regents Park townhouse. Not Regent’s Park, London, mind you, but Dallas. The Regents Park development is an exclusive gated community of just 14 luxury homes in the heart of Turtle Creek.

White stucco exteriors, balconies, terraces, and iron embellishments mean the builders have gotten it absolutely right in their goal of bringing a bit of London’s style to Dallas. If you could easily imagine yourself living in a tony London flat, this beauty at 2908 Hood Street may be just your cup of tea. Daylon Pereira of Allie Beth Allman has the 6,547-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-full-and-two-half-bath listing priced at $2.59 million.

This urban mansion is four stories of classic tradition. Like most European townhouses, you enter on the ground floor and the main living area is on the first floor. There’s also a bedroom at this level — perfect for either live-in help (we all need a Mr. Carson) or guests.

Don’t be daunted by multiple stories, there’s an elevator for your Dowager Countesses, but if you have a competitive Lady Mary in the family, the sprints up and down the stairs will keep them in fine form. You can park the Rolls at this level, too, and there’s room for the Bentley and the Land Rover as well in the climate controlled garage. Just below this level is the all-important wine cellar.

That first-floor formal living room is stunning. Arched divided-light windows, a marble fireplace, built-in bookcases, and hardwood floors are all timeless features of a classic European city dwelling. The dining room is almost a mirror image with fireplace, built-ins, and hardwoods, but with the addition of a lovely bow window that overlooks the trees. The kitchen is on the first floor as well, and it’s one your Mrs. Patmore will never want to leave. It has all the professional grade appliance you’d expect and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Although this is, technically speaking, a breakfast area it’s large enough to act as a secondary living space.

One of my favorite things about this home is that the master suite is an entire floor. It’s quite the private sanctuary. There’s a sitting room plus dedicated closets and bathrooms for both the lady and the gentleman of the house — as it should be. Separate bathrooms and closets keep everyone happy. The laundry room is also on this floor, so really the only time anyone might invade your privacy is to do your laundry, and I think we’re all fine with that.

The top floor has two more bedrooms with private bathrooms, an informal living area, outdoor patio, and wonderful rooftop decks that wrap three sides of the building. This is a perfect perch on which to sip your Pimms and plot, plan, or party.
