Post-War Wolf Creek Cottage Shines With Updates

6d3e38e81cd899f2165762d345ecf0e5l-m0xd-w1020_h770_q80For this week’s Weekend One Hundred, we found ourselves back in Wolf Creek, where families are finding a still affordable pocket of Dallas — but possibly not for long.

You see, the post-war cottage we found for this week already has multiple offers. We found it last weekend, bookmarked it, and 10 days later, the sellers were entertaining several offers.

Why? We’ve written about Wolf Creek before — it is a great place to get the square footage you want, but at a price point that you can’t find often in other pockets of Dallas. You can find homes under that increasingly dear $250,000 range, and most if not all in this range are updated and renovated, and some even have additional amenities like pools or workshop space.

And just taking a gander at the area’s NextDoor page, it’s interesting to see how those who call Wolf Creek home describe the best things about their neighborhood — with words like, “peaceful,” “dog-friendly,” “family-friendly,” and “clean.”

Interest is probably further enhanced by the fact that it’s close to Red Bird Mall, which is now the focus of a revitalization project dubbed Red Bird Reimagined, where a decaying mall and adjacent properties are being transformed and well, reimagined.

Today’s home at 554 Elston Drive was built in 1948, but as they say, age ain’t nothin’ but a number. This four-bedroom, two bath home has had a complete refresh, including fresh paint inside and out, vinyl wood plank flooring throughout most of the home, a new HVAC and gas hot water heater, and more.

And there are two living areas, nice for families that would like a grown-up space and a more kid-friendly family room.

The cozy kitchen boasts stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, bright white cabinetry, and subway tile, as well as an adjacent breakfast area with built-in wine rack and more cabinets.

A large master bedroom with an updated master bathroom shines with granite countertops and white cabinetry, new floor tile, and a sleek tile surround in the bathtub/shower.

Outside, a big backyard boasts lush grass and plenty of room for a swingset, a deck, and more.

The home is priced at $150,000 and is listed by Peri Duncan with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty Texas. To see more photos, click here.
