It would admittedly be a challenge for a real estate blog, but homes are just better with pets. (And totally stageable too.) That’s why you paws-itively should head to Watters Creek in Allen this weekend for a mega pet adoption event, “Peace, Love, and Paws” on Saturday, April 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Watters Creek, the 52-acre mixed used development featuring shopping, dining and living space in northern Collin County, often hosts rescue groups monthly, concerts and special holiday-themed events. Seven days a week you’ll find flocks of kids playing on the grassy turf and man-made river that runs through it, with thirsty parents enjoying the patio restaurants in eye sight.
One of Watters Creek’s long-term pet adoption partners, the League of Animal Protectors (LAP), helped coordinate eight local rescue groups to help find fur-ever homes for these deserving companion animals. The eight dog rescue groups scheduled to attend the Watters Creek event are:
Crossed Paws Animal Haven is a McKinney rescue group with 11 dogs in search of home. One of their fosters is Bailee, a 9-year-old female Boston Terrier, who is house trained and wouldn’t dream of chewing on your belongings.
League of Animal Protectors (LAP) is a Dallas-based rescue group with approximately 50 dogs and cats listed for adoption. You might meet Jake Gyllenpaw, a 2-year-old male Chihuahua mix, but no autographs please.
Legacy Humane Society is a McKinney pet adoption group with approximately 50 dogs and a handful of kittens looking for homes. Not confirmed whether she’ll be there, but one of their fosters is a special needs senior named Serenity, a female Miniature Schnauzer-Yorkshire Terrier mix, who is blind and partially deaf but has the best, cutest-looking ears I’ve ever seen.
Lone Star Westie Rescue is a terrier rescue group based in Carrollton. Their two adoptable animals are Wrigley, a two-year-old Poodle Terrier mix and Wally, a two-year-old Cairn Terrier mix.
Millie’s Mutts is a Dallas-based rescue group that has seven dogs up for adoption, including Oscar, a male Norfolk Terrier-Poodle mix who takes no offense to the mutt moniker.
Save Our Strays (SOS) is an animal rescue group from Houston that has several cats up for adoption. Their latest arrival was a one week old kitten found in the middle of a busy road.
The Street Dog Project, a Flower Mound animal rescue, has secured RSVPs for Timber, a male Black Mouth Cur-Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and Toast, a female American Staffordshire Terrier-Labrador Retriever mix.
White Rock Dog Rescue saves homeless animals found in East Dallas and around White Rock Lake. Right now they’ve got two pups in needs of homes, Cassidy, a two-year-old female American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever mix and Spencer, a young male Pointer-Shepherd mix.
Plus there’ll be vendors selling gear for cats, dogs, and the people who love them. The vendors include Charlie Pickles, Mr. Wigglebottoms, Pawtastic Snacks, Pet Wants Plano, Wet Nose Bows, and State Farm. Oh my gosh I’m dying here.
A themed photo area will be available for pet parents to snap photos of their beloved pets. For all guests, there will be games and face painting for kids.
