Oak Cliff Annex Craftsman Offers Classic Style and Modern Updates to Woo Buyers

There’s something about a Craftsman house that’s just so endearing. Simple, elegant lines; big, framed out windows ; decorative trim; and a welcoming front porch are just some of the elements that woo buyers.

Our Thursday Three Hundred is a classic Craftsman at 730 N. Montclair Ave. Built in 1923, it is lovingly maintained and recently updated in a few key area, like the kitchen and bathrooms, to make it more appealing to modern buyers.

This home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,560 square feet on one story in the Oak Cliff Annex neighborhood, near West Davis and North Tyler streets. It’s a real gem that just hit the market Oct. 20. Let’s take a look before it goes under contract.

Oak Cliff Annex is also known as the Kings Highway Conservation District, created in 1988 and the first of its kind in Texas. As the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League notes:

Many of the original 1910 apartments remain, but it is the diversity of the area that is so appealing. While much of the neighborhood has a 1920s middle class feel with single family Craftsman bungalows, Kings Highway is lined with examples of Tudor, late Queen Anne, Neoclassical and Prairie-style homes. Many of the smaller houses have been restored, but a number of the larger two story homes await creative hands to bring them back to their original splendor.

This house fits in beautifully in the neighborhood, with true Craftsman style, like the low-pitch gable roof and wood siding and a cozy front porch. Love that light gray color on the siding and brick.

The floorplan is traditional for this era, with a front living room with fireplace, moving into a formal dining room, and then into the kitchen. From the dining room, there’s a door into the hallway, linking the bedrooms and bathrooms. The flow is easy, walls of windows flood the rooms with natural light, and recently refinished hardwoods gleam in all common areas and two of the three bedrooms.

The kitchen is dreamy, with marble countertops, lots of gray Shaker-style cabinets offering tons of storage, a white subway tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances, including a gas range. Nearby is a separate utility room with a large pantry and storage.

The master suite is a newer addition to the house, with its own ensuite bathroom, a huge bonus in a home of this era. That bathroom features a marble-topped vanity, light gray tile, and white subway tile in the shower. The second bathroom also has beautiful details and has been remodeled in the best of taste.

This Oak Cliff Annex Craftsman is listed by Keith Yonick with Coldwell Banker Residential for $389,900.
