Jason Northcutt recently teamed with JP & Associates Realtors.  His McKinney-based North Realty Group will now operate under the JPAR umbrella. He hopes the move will help both brands grow their market share in the area.

“I love what I do,” Northcutt said. “I wanted to continue growing what we already started and the move just kind of made sense.”

He says his motto is, “service first, service always,” and it applies to both clients and agents. It’s a business model he says aligns with JP’s.

Setting Sail For The Long Way to a Career in Real Estate

Northcutt has taken a unique path to real estate.

He joined the Navy after high school.  They sent him to school for photography, a hobby he’d picked up in high school. That later lead to being part of the military’s mobile affairs and broadcast operations.  During his 12 years in the service, he interviewed members of Congress, foreign government officials, and even the charge d’affaires for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He continued his media responsibilities part-time while a member of the reserves and with both the Texas Army National Guard and the Illinois Army National Guard. During this time he also started working in the mortgage industry.  After nearly 15 years in that business, he decided it was time for a change, and made the move to residential real estate sales.

Hardly an Overnight Success

Success didn’t come overnight for Northcutt. As he tells it, he flopped so badly during his first year that he wasn’t sure he wanted to continue. He let his license lapse for four months in 2017 before giving it one more try.  He ended up closing between $4 and $5 million that year.  The next year he was pushing $7 million, and last year he topped $8 million.

“I always share my story because I want other agents to know that anything is possible,” he said.

He says becoming a true student of real estate was the key to his turnaround. He dug in and learned everything he could. Eventually he figured out what worked for him and was able to carve out his own niche.

“I think you have to be willing to be a student of the game,” he said. “If you do that, and you are teachable and coachable, anything is possible.”

Looking ahead, he’s excited about the possibilities his new affiliation will bring.  He hopes to expand his group to 10 agents by the end of the years, with a goal of 15 to 20 agents by the end of 2021.
