Meadowdale Ranch Offers Modern Living On One Floor with Sixties Space, 21st Century Glam

We lived in a North Dallas Ranch for about four years, but it was nowhere as sleek as this beautifully updated angel at 4242 Meadowdale south of Royal Lane, east of Midway.

Our ranch was on Melissa Lane. It was such a well-cared for home — one owner and the owners even gave us a second mortgage, that’s how great they were — I couldn’t bear to tear out the boomerang Formica in the kitchen. It was flawless. The terrazzo floors kept the house cool in summer, as did the generous overhanging eaves that shaded the long porch. We replaced aluminum sliding glass doors with French doors, got rid of the planter boxes, painted and resurfaced. Of all the homes we lived in,  4307 Melissa was probably the best built. Very few problems in that house. It was built like a brick #*&!house, to use one of my favorite Realtors, Hunter Dehn’s, phrases.

So, too, is 4242 Meadowdale. Even better, this home has been updated to a smooth, sleek 2015 style of living with expansive rooms. A spacious dining room opens to the living room with tons of light, and the open kitchen offers brand new stainless appliances as well as views of the large backyard. The lot is a whopping .38 acres. That is actually the perfect size, big enough for a patio, pool and some play yard space for the kiddos.4242-Meadowdale-kitchen4-1024x768

We didn’t have a pool on Melissa, but the folks who bought the house did put one in and loved it. We hung a fun swing for my daughter from the huge oak in the backyard.

That’s what you get up here — beautiful, mature lots brimming with trees. The home was built in 1967, so the closets are not those little cubicles of the ’40s and ’50s homes.

Honestly, if I could go in a time capsule, I would go back to the 1940s JUST to find out where the hell they put their clothes! I know they wore clothes back then. This is more perplexing to me in homes up north, like my native Chicago where we had to store thick wool coats and boots and all the paraphernalia of sub zero weather. Still, 1940’s house: teeny closet. The ’60s saw at least the larger sliding door closet. Not everyone had a Twiggy-sized wardrobe.

Our circa ’60’s home on Melissa had great closets, I think even two walk-ins in the master. Indeed, we moved into a remodeled, remuddled ’30’s New Orleans deal on Park Lane (long since torn down) and nothing fit in those closets. I had California Closets living at our new house, looking for space.

There are 4 bedrooms, three full baths (one Jack n’ Jill) and a powder room. The master is huge — 18 by 16 with walk-in closets. There are two living areas, two dining areas and that terrific kitchen. Outside is a huge covered porch, essentially a THIRD living area,  with grill far enough away from the house to keep the smoke out. I love grilling, but I do not like the smell 24/7 in my house.

And there’s a two car garage on a great, circular, insular street just south of Creekdale. I don’t have to tell you how convenient this area is to Preston Royal, Midway & Northwest Highway, Forest & Marsh, and highway access.

Besides, I hear that LBJ will be finished in September. I’ll believe that when it’s 70 degrees in Dallas in August…

Listed with the talented Alex Perry of Allie Beth Allman for a mere $795,000, she’s empty and ready for some love! And the good folks at Inwood National Bank and Inwood Mortgage are ready to help you FIND love, and find it big, so you can buy this home.4242-Meadowdale-rear-1024x768
