From staff reports

Ask anyone who has been in Dallas for a while and they’ll tell you: If you’re a fan of home tours, the one hosted by Heritage Oak Cliff — the longest-running one in the city — should be on your list.

And the organization just announced the dates for its 45th home tour, which will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. October 19 and 20th.

The first tour, known as the “Urban Pioneer Tour,” took place in 1975 and featured 12 homes from east Dallas, Oak Lawn, Winnetka Heights, and was a collaborative effort with the Historic Preservation League (now Preservation Dallas), the Oak Lawn Preservation Society, and the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League (now Heritage Oak Cliff), which was organized the year prior by Winnetka Heights resident Mary Griffith.

This year’s tour will include 10 homes (stay tuned with event media co-sponsors Daltxrealestate.com and the Oak Cliff Advocate for more details on those homes after the tour reveal September 9) from diverse neighborhoods, showcasing a variety of architectural styles. Ticket prices are $15 to $20, and are available online.

Proceeds from the home tour fund the Heritage Oak Cliff grant program, which provides funds to member neighborhoods for projects that contribute to the overall quality of life in Oak Cliff. The grants can fund up to 60 percent of proposed projects that provide long-term benefits to the community.

Over the last five years, the neighborhood grant program has invested over $148,000 back into the neighborhoods it serves.

Additional sponsors include Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Nuncio Realty Group, The Foster Team – Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, Hewitt & Habgood Group, Oak Cliff Real Estate Group,  Ric Shanahan Team,  Origin Bank, First United Mortgage Group, Susan Keene – Cornerstone Home Lending, and Phillip Hearn – Paradigm Wealth Management.
