Lovely Lakewood Boulevard Home Has Historic Charm

Lakewood is loved for its close-knit community, its easily walkable neighborhoods, and of course, its architecture. One of the best Lakewood neighborhoods to gawk at tons of gorgeous homes is Country Club Estates. This area, protected by a conservation district, has some of the most truly beautiful historic homes east of Swiss Avenue.

And this property, which has such fantastic presence on an over-sized lot, is such a gem. It’s on one of the prettiest streets in Lakewood, the neighborhood’s eponymous boulevard. And now you can own it. Jump to find out more!

John Whiteside has this incredible listing at 6675 Lakewood Boulevard, and the Briggs Freeman Realtor calls this home “timeless” in the way that it combines the charm of the old with the amenities of the new. He’s marketing this four-bedrom, three-full-and-one-half-bath 1940-built Spanish revival in the heart of Lakewood for $1,498,500.

“Renovated with thought and intent, this home retains the architectural features of the original construction, including stained glass windows, crown moldings, hardwood floors, classic staircase and welcoming front porch, while embracing features that make this home perfect for today’s buyer,” Whiteside says of the 4,135-square-foot home.

This home is right across the street from one of Anton Korn’s most beautiful Lakewood designs, but I don’t have any word back yet from Whiteside about the architect of this property. We’ll update this as soon as we know.

But on to what makes this home special. Yes it has been updated, but every bit of molding and every pane of stained glass has been lovingly preserved. This home has just a tremendous amount of open space and feels bright and airy despite its age. The formal living and dining rooms are just spectacular, and show off the great taste of the sellers. There’s an additional family room, which is fantastic for those who would prefer an informal place to plop down and relax. And the kitchen? Well, it’s absolutely sublime.

You get an enormous kitchen with upgrades galore, including dual dishwashers, a built-in steamer, a six-burner gas stove and an additional oven, a warmer, and a built-in microwave. The island is topped with Dandy Calcutta marble, and is a fantastic spot for hosting informal gatherings. There’s an adjoining breakfast nook with fireplace, exposed beam ceilings, and views of the backyard, as well as French doors to access the back porch. The plantation shutters are great for allowing just the right amount of light in, and it keeps the feel of the kitchen open and uncluttered.

The flow throughout the first floor is optimal, and you’ll love the designer touches, including the beautiful chandeliers and well-matched paint colors, as well as original details such as arched doorways and beautiful woodwork and hardwood floors. Everything feels warm and inviting, which is a feat considering how large this home is.

The master suite is on the second floor, which may not be optimal for everyone, but it is definitely a trade-off when you see that large covered balcony just off the master suite. I also love the warm, buttery yellow color on the walls. It’s one of my favorite warm neutrals, and it goes great with the Spanish revival architecture of the home and the traditional furnishings.

The private master bath is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, too, with beautiful glazed Spanish-inspired tile, a free-standing claw-foot tub, separate shower, breakfast bar, lovely little antique chandelier, and a flat-screen TV set in the mirror. You also get an over-sized walk-in closet which connects to an upstairs laundry area and homework desk. How thoughtful!

There is an additional private suite upstairs, perfect for guests, and a Jack-and-Jill bed/bath combination, offering space for a family of four or five without the slightest hiccup. It’s just been on the market for 18 days, and considering the clip that luxury homes are going at in Lakewood, it may not be on the market for long.

Of course, with a backyard like this one, with a great pool, fantastic rear porch, lawn and trees, plus beautiful landscaping, it will be a great home for entertaining, or just enjoying the spring and summer days to come with your family. Can you imagine yourself in this home? Tell us what you love the most about this house in the comments!
