Little Forest Hills Modern Puts the “Fun” in Funky

Teardowns are a contentious topic in Little Forest Hills, an East Dallas neighborhood that has tried twice to get a conservation district overlay, failing both times. Still, as many residents in Hollywood Santa Monica know, not every home is worth saving, especially those that are tiny, ramshackle affairs that seem almost propped up on cinder blocks, ready to blow sideways at the next breeze.

Of course, with a neighborhood motto like “Keep Little Forest Hills Funky,” sometimes a new build will follow that creed despite what structure was razed to make room for it. There’s no better example of this than the bright, colorful, quirky modern at 8702 San Fernando Way.

Jump to see inside this sweetheart of a new build that is exceptionally bright and very, very green.

This home has some fantastic features that really make the most of the small lot, like the wide apron of the driveway and the two-sided carport. This is fantastic because it gives you access to the garage from the backyard, which could also make the carport double as a covered porch for entertaining.  The home has tons of low-e windows that let in plenty of natural light during the day, and make the home glow at night. It is like a warm little diamond!

There are three bedrooms, two full baths, and more than 2,700 square feet inside this contemporary home in the Shamrock Shores area of Little Forest Hills. It’s marketed by Clay Stapp + Co. agent Chase Huddleston for $589,000. This home is still awaiting finishing touches, making it great for someone who wants a custom feel. Constructed by SunCraft Design/Build, this home has plenty of eco-friendly features, including maximum R-value insulation and radiant barrier sheathing. There’s even room for a pool!

I love the color of the cabinetry in the kitchen. You don’t see mint-green cabinets and drawers outside of midcentury modern homes, though this house is definitely inspired by the period. The wide-plank hardwood floors are warm and fabulous and go perfectly with the soft museum finish walls and exposed beams in key areas. You get quartz counters, stainless fixtures, and oodles of style all with an open floor plan. Plus, you can choose your own appliances!

The master bedroom is gigantic at 15 x 27, and has super tall ceilings that make the space feel opulent. There is plenty of room for oversized furniture, and the two ceiling fans will help keep you cool at night. the master bath has a huge vanity with tons of cabinet space, and the open shower stall is wonderful. I love the river-rock floor especially, and there’s another ceiling fan in here, too.

So, what do you think of this new build?
