Lease of the Week: Incredible 1960s Treehouse Time Capsule in Fort Worth

Every once in a while, a cool house will come along that will have me practically screaming, “JUST GO AHEAD AND TAKE MY MONEY!” They are usually crazy unique, fun homes with dramatic spaces and vintage charm. I am a sucker for those midcentury modern homes with original details, ones that are like time capsules, catapulting you back to when smoking was a harmless habit, day-drinking the norm, and seatbelts were optional.

This 1966 Spanish-inspired midcentury modern treehouse in Fort Worth’s Quail Run is one such house. Thanks to its cantilevered construction and deep 0.85 acre lot, it feels as if you are dwelling amongst the trees. It’s exceptionally private despite all of the floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows, thanks to the sunken approach from the street. Marketed by Clay Brant, you can lease the three-bedroom, three-bath beauty with 3,747 square feet at 5328 Quail Run for $4,500 a month. Can’t imagine living without it for a day? You can buy it, too, for $725,000.

There are some amazing details that hearken to the wonderful craftsmanship of this home, including the ornate, hand-carved doors, the cool stained glass windows, exposed stone walls, built-in cabinetry, and the cool modern stone fireplace. There are beautiful curved windows in the front, stone floors, and vaulted ceilings, too.

The open kitchen was ahead of its time, and has been updated with granite counters and stainless steel appliances, as well as two sinks. The beautiful original cabinetry remains, though, and there’s a butler’s pantry with a wine refrigerator, too. The living room is perfect for all sorts of parties (especially one where this might happen), thanks to its sunken floorplan and cool fireplace. But it’s the balcony that joins these two spaces that is absolute perfection. Can you imagine lighting this thing up with a few torches, hanging out in your suit with matching skinny tie, and listening to some jazz? I know, it’s almost too perfect.

There is, of course, an amazing master suite. It’s 18×14 and has it’s own built-ins, including a mini-fridge, which is perfect for when you’re not quite ready to greet guests on a Sunday until you’ve mixed your in-room Bloody Mary. There’s a five-piece bath and a private balcony, too, that is also wired for surround sound. It’s just amazing, isn’t it?

What do you think of this home?
