This is just such an amazing opportunity to live in an amazing home! Were you looking for the perfect rental for your relocation to Dallas? Have a couple of kids and want to be in a great school district? Love architecture and midcentury modern design? There could be no more perfect home for you!

This Howard Meyer-designed three-bedroom, three-bath modern dream home was recently on the market for $1.2 million and you can rent it today for $6,495 a month! It’s listed with the gorgeous Dave Perry-Miller agent Charme Gallini.

Now, I may be biased, but I think that this wonderful time capsule of a home showed a lot better when it was on the Spring Modern Home Tour. There was furniture! Color! Perspective! The space was alive.

Today, well … it’s all very, very white.

Nothing against white. It’s great if you’ve got colorful furniture, bright art, interesting shapes, and fun accessories. But sometimes it just sucks all the personality out of a home. And a home like this beautiful, unique property has a lot of personality! The original linoleum floors in the kitchen, the cool light fixtures in the living and dining areas, the casement windows, the glass bricks surrounding the front door — all of it gives the home a sense of place in time.

I think Candy described this gorgeous home best:

Built in 1938 for Melville S. Rose, designed by modernist architect Howard Meyer, 4504 Bordeaux came into this world for the huge sum of $12,100. I think having a baby now costs more than that. The home has been lovingly, painstakingly, tenderly restored and nurtured by it’s current owners, who happen to be the home’s second owners. That’s right, just two owners in 76 years!

Homes, as you know, are like lovers. Have too many owners, well, it takes a toll on you and your soul!

The home is in a primo location on a block of Bordeaux in Highland Park, just east of the Dallas North Tollway, that has not seen too many tear-downs. The trees are huge, including a 150 year old thick-trunked Pecan that may think of itself as a Redwood. They create awnings of leaves that keep it cool, simulating the life that thrived here back in the days before chilled air. One of the oldest surviving examples of  Meyer’s modernist designs, 4504 Bordeaux is a testament to how quality materials and great design make a home ageless, make her wear well and survive the years with as little intervention as possible.

Wouldn’t you love to live here? I know I want to!
