“The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is a nonprofit membership organization committed to promoting and preserving the practice, understanding, and appreciation of classical design. To do so, the ICAA offers a broad range of educational programs. These include intensives for architecture and design students, introductory programs for middle school students, lectures and walking tours for the public, continuing education courses for professionals and enthusiasts, travel programs to visit classical masterpieces, the publishing of original and reprinted books, and an annual journal entitled the Classicist. Through the annual Arthur Ross Awards and other national and regional award programs, the ICAA also honors contemporary leaders of classical design and related fields.”

“At the state level, we are meeting with educators and professionals this fall to expand our New Heights program into all four major metro areas in Texas,” Lumpkins said. “After six successful years running the program in San Antonio at the junior and high school levels, we are excited to focus our efforts on expanding this wonderful introductory program of classical architecture and art to underserved communities and schools in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.”

The Texas Chapter launched the bi-annual John Staub Awards in 2011. Staub, a residential architect, designed traditional homes from the 1920s to the 1960s. These awards recognize Texas projects and practitioners committed to promoting excellence in classical and vernacular traditions.

“Winners and nominees are architects, designers, and artisans whose projects work toward further building on the incredible legacy of John Staub.”

This fall, the Texas Chapter is hosting the first Elisabet Ney Artisans Ball to honor Texas artisans and craftsmen and celebrates the success of the New Heights program. The celebration will feature a silent auction, dinner, and dancing to live music. Proceeds from the event will support the Texas Chapter’s education programming and bring New Heights to schools in major Texas cities.
