Irwindell Tudor in North Oak Cliff Offers Long List of Updates, Desirable Amenities

We love a great before-and-after, and our Tuesday Two Hundred tells a compelling story. This 1928 North Oak Cliff Tudor was uninhabitable until 2015, when huge renovations restored this beauty and made it into the cozy, stylish home you see today.

Located at 502 S. Westmoreland Rd. in the Irwindell neighborhood (just south of West Jefferson Boulevard), this Tudor is completely reimagined with an open concept floorplan and modern amenities buyers love, like a brand new kitchen with farm sink and open shelving. But the original character of the home shines, too, with details like glass doorknobs and restored fireplace.

“All the improvements were completed in August 2015 and made to reflect the charm and character of this late 20’s-built home in Irwindell,” said listing agent Mark Lucisano with Keller Williams—Dallas Park Cities. “This home is located one mile from Westmoreland DART station and all of the great shops and eats in Bishop Arts.”

It’s a modest footprint, with two bedrooms, one bathrooms, and 1,105 square feet, but this home packs a lot into that space and makes the most of its size. We’re impressed!

Irwindell is a small neighborhood in North Oak Cliff, full of traditional and Tudor-style single-family homes. The neighborhood was established in 1924, when building began, and this home is one of the originals. Houses generally range from just over 800 square feet to just over 2,000, and prices usually stay under $300K.

The one downside we see for this home is its location on a fairly busy road, Westmoreland. But it offers a dual entrance driveway with access from either Westmoreland or Schooldell Road, a less busy street. There’s a gate at the Schooldell entrance.

Whole-house improvements include new electrical wiring, electric panel, plumbing, 40-gallon gas water heater, 30-year composition roof, radiant barrier insulation, privacy fence, decking, and smoke detectors. There’s also new HVAC, including a 100,000 BTU furnace and 3-ton air conditioner with new ducting and copper lines. Those are big-ticket items.

Inside, there are hardwoods everywhere except the bathrooms. No carpet in sight. An original fireplace, now decorative, anchors the living room, which is an inviting space that opens to the dining room and further back, the kitchen. New wood beams add a designer touch to the room, and built-in bookshelves mean lots of storage.

Dream of culinary adventures in the brand-new kitchen with a porcelain farm sink, large center island with granite, open shelving, recessed lights, shiplap accents, butcherblock counters, and stainless steel appliances, including a gas range. Love the herringbone pattern of the hardwoods in here!

Both bedrooms are lovely, with those hardwood floors and good-sized windows. They share a large bathroom with double sinks, hexagon tile floor, newly refinished cast iron tub, subway tile, and antique bronze fixtures.

The downside of this home having only one bathroom is remedied by the potential of the attic, a big space that could be a third bedroom with a half bathroom.

A large backyard is great for entertaining, with multiple seating areas, new decking, new privacy fence, mature trees, and grassy green space.

This home was listed Jan. 12 by Lucisano for $249,900.
