Inside 3525 Turtle Creek Condo is a Glamorous Treasure Trove of Art

Mark Parker and Eric Johnson are opening their gorgeous unit inside the Howard R. Meyer-designed midcentury classic 3525 Turtle Creek.

There are four home tours this weekend, but if your dance card is almost full, the Turtle Creek Association Tour of Homes should be on your short list. It’s perfect, actually — go to the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society tour on Saturday and then hit the Turtle Creek Association Tour of Homes on Sunday. Boom. Consider your weekend planned.

This is the 15th annual TCA Tour of Homes, and they have a wonderful lineup of properties that feature amazing works of art. Of course, this tour wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the “Grand Dame” of Turtle Creek, the Howard Meyer-designed tower at 3525 Turtle Creek. I love this building because of its iconic brise soliel and its amazing views of the neighborhood. This building is on the National Register of Historic Places and has played host to some of the biggest names in midcentury politics and entertainment.

Of course, the units inside are fabulous, and this one owned by Eric Johnson and Mark Parker is particularly splendid. You can still purchase tickets to the tour, which runs from 1 to 5 p.m. with an exclusive after party from 6 to 8 p.m. Tour tickets are $60 apiece for non-TCA members and $50 apiece for members, but after party tickets are sold out!

If you want to win a pair of tickets to the Turtle Creek Association Tour of Homes so you can see Johnson and Parker’s gorgeous condo for yourself, stay tuned right here to daltxrealestate.com!

daltxrealestate.com: What room or design element of your home will stand out to home tour goers?

Eric Johnson: The living room with its panoramic view of Turtle Creek and the Kalita Humphreys Theater, in addition to the wall of Frank Stella lithographs.

CD: Is there any feature or finish in your home that tour goers shouldn’t miss?

Johnson: The handpainted wallpaper in the hallway and the antique, crystal chandelier in the dining room that originally designed to use gas and has now been modernized to use electricity are two of our favorites.

CD: If you had to choose one spot — inside or outside — on your property where you could spend all day, where would it be and why?

Johnson: The library is our favorite room with its warm wood finishes and decor that we purchased from the estate of the previous owner.

CD: What are you doing to prepare for the home tour?

Johnson: We are taking our boy Chihuahua on a road trip that day.

CD: What construction or renovation have you completed since you moved in? In what ways have you put your fingerprint on your home?

Johnson: We updated the apartment when we moved here 10 years ago. The room we renovated the most was the master bathroom.

CD: Is there any history behind your home? Your neighborhood? Care to share?

Johnson: We are the second owners of the home. The original owners were Ted and Beulah Beasley. Mr. Beasley was the founder and chair of Republic National Life Insurance. Both the Beasleys were involved in civic affairs and philanthropy.
