High Caliber Home of the Week: Stone-Clad Stevens Park Gem is Divine Inside

2308-W.-Colorado-Front

From the outside, it looks like many of the Austin stone-clad 1930s bungalows you’ll find throughout North Oak Cliff’s Stevens Park Village. These homes, perched along the city’s award-winning, redesigned public golf course, all have a very Lakewood-esque character, thanks to the rolling hills and well-maintained homes. Developed by Annie Stevens between 1939 and 1941, you’ll find a great mix of single-story bungalows like this one with Prairie-style abodes and even some Dilbeck-designed residences.

This particular specimen, built in 1941, has a vintage feeling exterior and completely updated interiors. The care and attention to detail, both inside and out, make this home a High Caliber Home. If you’re already falling in love with this lovely home, contact Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans today. David Griffin Realtor Robert Kucharski says this home at 2308 W. Colorado Boulevard is absolutely pristine. It has a gorgeous renovated kitchen with custom cabinets and thoughtful stainless steel and butcher block countertops, perfect for the at-home chef. The spaces throughout have been redefined with trim and built-ins, while still retaining character. It was taken to the studs, Kucharski adds, with new wiring, HVAC, plumbing, insulation, as well as a new roof. The lucky buyer will also appreciate the beautifully refinished hardwood floors, mouldings, doors, hardware, new thermal windows, spacious deck, outdoor lighting, and 8-foot fence with a rear-access car port with storage.

If it sounds like you get an incredible amount of amenities with this home, you should be heartened to hear that, despite the upgrades to this lovely, well-built house, it clocks in at only $379,000. I know! It’s such a deal! And it’s in one of North Oak Cliff’s most picturesque neighborhoods.

This home has three bedrooms, two full baths, and 1,658 square feet of fully renovated, move-in ready space. The home features a universally appealing color palette, with cool grey, white, and blue contrasting the dark wood floors. The wainscoting in the dining area gives the room a formal feel, and in the living room the wood-burning fireplace is flanked by two narrow windows. There are so many built-ins to showcase your collections, perfect for keeping your home from feeling cluttered with extra furniture. Personally, the uber-modern ceiling fan feels a little out of place. Something a little more transitional would be a better fit. Still, it will be helpful during the hot Texas summers.

Now, this kitchen was made to love, and boy is it easy to fall in love with. First, the walls have been taken out between the dining and kitchen areas, opening up the space for easy entertaining. The bright blue island, which goes so well with the soft yellow paint on the walls, features a butcher block countertop with bar seating. There’s plenty of storage in this island, and it is wired, which is perfect for plugging in your mixer and rolling out pasta dough. See? I’m already cooking my first meal in this house. While the cabinetry is more of a traditional-feeling Shaker style, the hardware is modern stainless steel. It goes perfectly with the stainless steel countertops, which span the wall-mount prep area and flank the stainless steel six-burner gas range. Paired with the marble tile backsplash and you are in business. It is just gorgeous and completely fluid feeling. There’s also a built-in banquette in the breakfast nook, with even more storage on top of the copious cabinetry throughout this kitchen.

Just on the other side of the kitchen is this great mudroom space, which is perfect for those days when coming inside from parking the car in the backyard covered carport may mean a change of clothes. Still, it’s a great space for families who need a spot to drop things off between activities. It’s a wonderful staging area.

The master bedroom is a decent size at 14 x 13, but what’s interesting is the custom closets. Homes of this era rarely have closet space to speak of, so finding a home with plenty of space is a feat in and of itself. The master bath has a spacious granite-topped double vanity with custom cabinetry and plenty of storage space. The bath area has trendy oversized subway tile with a shampoo niche. I love the soft grey cabinetry, which works well with the darker grey porcelain floors and the warmer countertop color.

There are two other bedrooms, which are smaller and share a hall bath, which is also updated with a shower and marble-topped vanity. The third bedroom, which is 13 x 12, could easily be a second living area or a study.

Outside you’ll find a gorgeous covered deck, which opens to the backyard. This is a deck for hosting cocktail parties and getting to know your neighbors, for sure! I love how spacious it is, and how well it goes with the car port just across the lawn. It’s an ingenious design, that’s for sure!

Tell us what you love about this great listing from Robert Kucharski in the comments!
