AT&T Stadium is home to the Dallas Cowboys, but what city is better for football-loving homeowners: Dallas or Green Bay?

Are you ready for some football? Surely you’ve wondered during less-than-stellar seasons of Cowboys past whether it would be better off to live in a city where a team doesn’t bomb the playoffs. As it turns out, Owners.com wanted to know which city, Dallas or Green Bay, Wis., were better for homeowners who are football fans. We were intrigued, too, especially considering that the home teams of these homeowners are going head-to-head on Sunday, Jan. 15, in the NFL Divisional Playoffs.

IT’S A TIE!

Really, though, let’s be honest: The Dallas Cowboys haven’t actually been in Dallas for a while, so technically, Green Bay beat Arlington. Our pride is still intact! But how did they arrive at that conclusion? Here’s the skinny from Owners.com:

Owners.com used five metrics to compare the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers and determine which market is touchdown a touchdown for homeowners. The metrics used were home appreciation, places to watch the game near the stadium, pizza delivery places (if you’re watching the game from home), home affordability and team record.

Home appreciation was defined according to the change in NAR’s median sales price of single-family homes from 2015 to 2016 in the metropolitan area of Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX and of Green Bay, WI.

To determine the number of places to watch the game near the stadium, Owners.com used Google maps to locate any restaurants and/or bars within a three mile radius of AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, that a patron could go to view a football game – under the assumption that these establishments have TVs.

The number of pizza delivery places was measured by the population of Metro Dallas, which was divided by 10,000 and then the number of delivery places that delivered within 20 miles of the city center. This equation provides the ratio of pizza delivery places for every 10,000 people within that community. The same equation was used for pizza places in Metro Green Bay.

To calculate home affordability, Owners.com used the median price of a single-family home for Metro Dallas in 2016 according to NAR and divided it by the average household income for Metro Dallas families according to Statista. A lower ratio depicts greater home affordability. The same equation / process was used for Metro Green Bay.

The regular season records for the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers were pulled for the 2012-13 season through the 2016-17 season.

After pulling this data and determining these measurements, each metric was assigned a letter grade on a set scale – “A+” being the highest scale value and “C-” being the lowest. The overall grade was calculated based on the average of all five scores.
