Welcome to a brand new series on daltxrealestate.com called “Five Questions With …” in which we will feature all the amazing real estate industry professionals outside the broker and agent circles. Title professionals, inspectors, remodelers, stagers, appraisers, loan officers … the real estate industry is rich with different trades and perspectives, and we want to find out more about them all!

Up first is someone who teaches all those budding agents and brokers how to agent and broker: Andy Ingram. He was just named “Instructor of the Year” at Champions School of Real Estate, where he has been inspiring classes of future Realtors and eliciting feedback like this:

“Thanks so much for the guidance and the thoughtful way you presented the review material for the exam. I passed both sections and truly felt well prepared.”

And this:

“It was clear that you really wanted your students to succeed.”

No wonder this Dallas-area real estate instructor is at the top of his class! Jump to find Ingram’s perspectives on what person is most suited for a career in real estate and whether he’s a dog person or a cat person:

1. What’s the most challenging aspect of being a real estate instructor?

Ingram: Keeping my material fresh and on the cutting edge in every class every day.

2. As a teacher at Champions School of Real Estate, when were you most proud of a student?

Ingram: A number of students have trouble passing the test for a variety of reasons (test anxiety, learning disability, English second language).  When they keep trying and coming back and eventually pass it’s a huge victory for them and me.  Much more so than for the average student who usually expects to pass and does.

3. What is the biggest challenge your students face upon graduation?

Ingram: I’d say the steep learning curve in the real estate industry and the realization of being your own boss.  Once they get that their main job is lead generation and they stick to it, they will be successful.

4. Finish this sentence: Not everyone is suited to sell real estate, especially …

Ingram: … those that don’t stay in education, even after they have passed their test.

5. Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Ingram: Once you’re in real estate, you become a dog person. Cat smell is almost impossible to get out of houses.

And there you have it! Did you learn something? Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment!
