“You’d be so nice to come home to.”

So said Cole Porter, but famously remembered by the snazzy cover of Frank Sinatra in his heyday. That heyday was in the 1950s, which was when this honey of a house was built. The 1950 build is located only a few blocks from the bustling Westside corridor of Camp Bowie Blvd. However, benefitting from tall old oaks, a deep street set back, and attractive winding brick hardscape, the drive by curb vibe is quiet serenity.

The painted paneled vestibule glows with warmth. The black painted front door echos the ebony treads of the quarter turn staircase. Leaded side lights, ovoid over window, and stair oculus complete the quaint picture. Quality reigns inside and out.

Public spaces are over scaled — almost supersized — perfect for entertaining. Flawless, honey-colored oak floors run throughout the 4,329-square-foot residence. The living room has one of two fireplaces.

Symmetrical? No. But the oddities of this Curzon capsule of time and taste only add to its charm. The painted Georgian built-ins give the dining room a classic elegance. We feel as if we are looking at a vintage House Beautiful backdrop.

Remarkably, the vintage metal St. Charles steel cabinets and stainless countertops have survived. Briefly revived under the Viking Corporation, St. Charles cabinets have been out of production since 2012 and are highly sought after in the vintage resale market. Vintage appeal to one side, this kitchen is spacious and practical. It has top-of-the-line, modern double ovens, gas cook top and double sink.

The sweeping family room houses the second fireplace. Warm paneling conceals a hidden silver closet with floor-to-ceiling book cases at one end. Sun streams in from the exterior wall with views of the pool.

Two of the four bedrooms are on the ground floor. The master bedroom has pool views on two sides and a hidden office. The second downstairs bedroom is currently being used as a large study.

And then there is the stunning back with its gorgeous pool. And the hardscape. Check out those noble brick walls. Today this work could easily run to tens of thousands of dollars. Another mark of quality is the slate tile roof. There is, in addition, a roofed outdoor kitchen.
