Devonshire Modern Benefits From Designer-Owner’s Expert Touch

5771berkshire4When you get the opportunity to purchase the personal home of a builder, architect, or interior designer, you know you’re getting something special — and this Devonshire Modern is an excellent exemplar of that.

This three-bedroom, four-bath home is 3,560 square feet of light and surprises concocted by two powerhouses in residential design to be the perfect showcase of the aesthetic of its designer-owner.

Located at 5771 Berkshire Lane, the personal home of Mexico City designer Ana Seyffert is no run-of-the-mill white Modern box. For one, she sought out the services of Madrid-born architect Antonio de la Carrera to build a home that is sleek, yet still playful enough to showcase Seyffert’s artistic touches.

“It really is a special property,” said listing agent Forrest Gregg with Compass Dallas. “The owner is also a very well known designer from Mexico City.  With clients in several countries, she has really established herself in the design world.”

Carrera utilized concrete form construction to create a home that is energy-efficient, and walls of commercial windows to bring the outdoors in. An open floorplan was built with the everyday life of a family in mind, but also for entertaining with live edge wood finishes in the kitchen, exotic stone counters, and custom lighting.

“As you can tell from the photographs, she has embraced the broad color palette of Mexico City as well as the use of textures and organic materials to tell a story,” Gregg said. “She chose the architect because they had a previous relationship working together and connections both professionally and personally.”

“His design aesthetic was a good compliment to hers,” he added. “Their collaboration created a warm space to call home as well as a space to entertain on a grand scale, serve as a space to showcase art and really give the homeowners something to be proud of.”

A generous master suite provides plenty of space for relaxation and includes a spa-like ensuite with a separate soaking tub and frameless glass shower.

But perhaps the biggest testament to Seyffert’s vision is the floating stairwell and its impressive and somewhat mischevious custom design sculpture and light installation resembling the colorful curling ribbons on a gift.

Every finish choice, lighting choice, and artistic touch was carefully considered by Seyffert, Gregg said.

“You can tell by the use of exotic woods and natural stone that Ana really curated each element of this house,” he told us. “There is also a very sophisticated lighting system which is not only great for highlighting the art throughout the home but also very subtle in appearance.”

Even where the home sits on the property was taken into consideration, he added.

“It is also great to notice how the house sits on the property — the view from each window, both looking in and looking out, is spectacular,” Gregg said.

The Devonshire Modern is listed for $1.49 million. To see more photos, check out the listing.
