The modern marvel at 47 Vanguard Way in Urban Reserve is one of our five featured open houses this week.

Every Thursday, we pick five hot North Texas properties with our CandysDirt Open Houses of the Week column.

This week, our houses range in price from $474,700 to $899,999. We’ve picked some impressive properties, from a rare 1920’s Craftsman in East Dallas’ Greenland Hills, to a magazine-worthy Midcentury in Hillside. Let us know what you think of our choices, and if you know of any we should feature next week!

MODERN MARVEL IN COVETED URBAN RESERVE NEIGHBORHOOD47-Vanguard-e47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e

Open house: Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m.

The Urban Reserve neighborhood is an eco-friendly development of 50 modern homes located near Central Expressway, White Rock Trail, and the Dart Light Rail. This is the brainchild of dedicated developer Diane Cheatham and recognized architects, and the homes are masterpieces on 13 acres with two ponds, lush greenery, and a strong sense of community.

The house at 47 Vanguard Way is designed by BangWorks and built by Alan Kagan and Garrett Ratner. Called Silver in the Woods, it is composed of brick and metal siding, anchored at the top of the sloping site, peeking out into the woods. It has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a half bath, and 2,331 square feet on two stories, built in 2015. There are ten-foot ceilings, walls of windows, a sleek European kitchen with marble counters, and stained concrete floors, with hardwood floors on the second level.

It was listed Sept. 3, 2015, by Ed Murchison with Virginia Cook, Realtors, for $789,900, reduced last week to $765,000.

GREENLAND HILLS RARE 1920’s CRAFTSMAN WITH TASTEFUL UPDATES

Open house: Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m.

The East Dallas Craftsman at 5442 Monticello Ave. is a rare find, indeed. This 1920’s Craftsman is in wonderful condition, with so many of its original features intact and preserved, and tasteful updates that make it livable for a modern family. That incredible front porch alone has us ready to go inside.

This is a 2-2 with 1,755 square feet, built in 1926, located in the heart of Greenland Hills in the Stonewall Elementary attendance zone. The interior has lots of natural light and hardwoods, as well as an original fireplace, brick accent walls, and an accommodating layout. The main downside is the kitchen: it has an awkward layout and is begging for a renovation.

The large grassy front and back yards offer mature trees and an expansive rear deck, as well as a new two-car garage and gated side drive. It was listed March 15 by Justin Easterling with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate for $475,000.

MAGAZINE-WORTHY UPDATED MIDCENTURY WITH VAULTED CEILINGS, GREENHOUSE47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e 47-Vanguard-e

Open house: Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m.

Get ready to be astounded by the Midcentury Modern at 4522 Rockaway Dr. in East Dallas’ Hillside neighborhood. This is a 3-2 with 1,585 square feet, built in 1952. It looks like it belongs in a magazine with lots of perfect vintage touches married with marvelous modern amenities (plus it’s in the Lakewood Elementary attendance zone).

The front living room is practically all windows with a fabulous dimensional retro fireplace and vaulted ceiling. The upscale kitchen is a sea of beautiful white cabinets, stainless steel appliances (including a gas range and farm sink), and under-cabinet lighting that illuminates and creates a dramatic space.

Outside, there’s a rare greenhouse designed by a protege of Frank Welch, as well as over $50K in professional landscaping. It was listed March 7 by Heidi Loewinsohn with Ebby Halliday, Realtors, for $474,700.

Open house: Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m.

The home at 7142 Mimosa Ln. is a designer remodel in very desired location near Walnut Hill Lane and Hillcrest road in the 75230 zip (The Meadows neighborhood). It has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a half bath, and 3,536 square feet, built in 1963.

This home has been professionally remodeled and has a fabulous layout with all right spaces and plenty of natural light. Feature include brand new nail-down hardwoods, low-E windows and exterior doors, totally new kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an imported backsplash from Spain. All bathrooms and the fireplace have imported Italian tile, and the back patio is a thing of beauty.

It was listed March 15 by Anna Kemp with Posh Property Advisers for $799,000.

Open house: Sunday, March 20, 2-4 p.m.

The two-story penthouse at 5909 Luther Ln. Unit 2304A has sweeping views of Preston Hollow and is zoned for Highland Park ISD. It’s a 2-2 with 2,220 square feet and an additional half bathroom.

Located near the Dallas North Tollway and Northwest Highway, the Sheldon Condos were built in 1983, and this unit is tastefully (and expensively) renovated. There are tons of luxe features throughout; standouts include a kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, including double ovens, and a super posh master suite with a sitting area and spa-like bathroom with soaker tub and frameless glass shower.

Building amenities include 24-7 security, valet, parking, fitness center, clubroom, year-round swimming pool, and private poolside cabanas. These are included in the monthly HOA fees of $1,277.

It was listed Dec. 7, 2015, by Carolina Rendon with Allie Beth Allman & Associates for $950K, reduced last week to $899,999.
