What Would You Change About This Home? Suzanne Felber Wouldn’t Lift a Finger in This Avida Custom Home

New construction by Avida Homes in Highland Park (Photo: Lisa Stewart Photography)

After being involved in homebuilding for over 30 years I’ve seen a lot, and as a Lifestylist® with an opinion, I almost always have changes I’d like to make to a home that I think would increase it’s value. After visiting 3608 Beverly, I’m speechless — for once I wouldn’t change a thing.

One of the hardest things to do in Dallas right now is to tour a newly constructed home — they are selling so quickly the builders barely have time to put in the driveway before the moving vans pull up. We met David and Rozie Samei of Avida Custom Homes at our recent Candy’sDirt.com Staff Meeting, at which they mentioned a home they just completed on Beverly Drive, and we set up a time to see it. Even before I could get there a potential customer made an appointment to tour the home for the third time, who is obviously in love with the house. With a home that is as beautiful as this one and in such a perfect location, you have to be fast. Of course, it’s now under contract, says Rozie Samei!

The husband-and-wife duo of Avida Custom Homes is truly hands-on — they are on-site daily and Rozie is responsible for all of the special touches and attention to detail that make this home stand out. It is all new construction, but has a timeless feeling to it and is truly designed to withstand the test of time. It was hard to get past the entry. To the left is the receiving room and to the right is the formal dining, and both have charming fireplaces with materials imported from Provence, the dining mantle being from the 1800s.

The imported French limestone floors are found in the foyer and gallery with 6-inch walnut hardwoods in the other spaces. Keeping the flooring changes to a minimum really enhances how open and inviting the floorpan is. There’s a natural flow that keeps you interested in what’s going to be around the next corner. As you can tell, I absolutely love everything about this home, but when I saw the kitchen and great room, it was downright lust.

The black 60-inch La Cornue Chateaux 150 range was the star of the room, framed by Downsview cabinets. I wasn’t kidding when I said the builder paid attention to every detail — the brass hardware and bath fixtures are unlaquered so over time they will develop a beautiful unique patina of their own.

The Moroccan tiles in the backsplash add just enough color and drama to make this area the showcase it deserves to be.

The great room has a wine bar and includes not only a SubZero wine column, but also a niche with clear glass doors to showcase those special Burgundys in your collection.

Each of the seven-and-a-half baths is a jewel box, with it’s own unique personality. The master suite boasts two completely separate his-and-hers baths with the light-filled feminine version sporting a soaking tub and, of course, a shower with a home spa experience. His side has a double shower with bench and oversized vanity.

We frequently mention how important it is to stage a home properly, and this home is a timely example. I’m life-styling homes every day, but even I have problems visualizing how some of these large rooms will work with furniture in them. Avida Custom Homes worked with designer (and client!) Kristy K. Smith Antiques and Interiors to stage this home, and by incorporating just the right mix of new furnishings, antiques, one-of-a-kind artwork, and pops of color, this house now feels like a home.

My new dream home is listed by Doris Jacobs of Allie Beth Allman. Avida Custom Homes only builds two homes a year, so if this home is sold, ask them about building a home just to your tastes.
