Celebrity Real Estate News is Hot and Getting Hotter in Ink: the Real Estalker Joins Variety

Realestalker-mceWestlake-CA-12.10-040You remember Mama, right? Here I am with her in L.A. a few years ago. Mama is the pen name of Mark David, who pioneered the concept of blogging about real estate, his (her’s) having a distinctive voice and opinion as he chronicles the ever-amazing homes of the rich, famous, and celebs. I loved Mark’s work from the start, in fact, I could call him my mentor! He totally inspired me to start chronicling real estate on a local level, first at DallasDirt then here at daltxrealestate.com. As America’s upper tier grew and their bank accounts fattened, it was Mark who kept a sharp eye on how they spent (over-spent) their money on housing with a definite opinion about tastes.

Now comes news that Variety, the legendary weekly Hollywood gossip magazine chronicling the entertainment industry, is incorporating Mark’s  “Real Estalker” blog into its very pages. Mark, or Mama, will be writing a new section for Variety called DIRT. I have not yet emailed him, but it appears this is very much The Real Estalker and Mama’s voice within Variety. Which is great for Mark, of course, but also an interesting media move that should tell you something very strong about what readers want in content: entertainment, intelligence and honesty. That’s something we try to provide our readers here, too, on daltxrealestate.com (and secondShelters.com) along with RE news and just plain fun. Interesting, too, that Mark is coming to a major media player from having branded himself as an on-line blogger, first.

I cannot tell you enough or how fast the media world is changing. Here is yet another example.

Then over at the L.A. Times, my dear friends Lauren Beale and Neil Leiterig are launching a new, expanded luxury real estate blog called Hot Property. Neil recently joined Lauren from Realtor.com. At The Times, he’ll cover property deals involving sports stars, his specialty, but much more. So many way cool homes in L.A. Hot Property celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. One of the new features will be called Throwback Thursday, a look at historical homes in the LA area. I have been wanting to do a Throwback Thursday in Dallas for eons but alas, most of our older homes have been torn down!

The Real Estalker is meant to entertain above all else, and will bring a new boldness, energy and voice to Variety‘s long-standing coverage of the entertainment real estate market. The addition of Real Estalker marks yet another significant step in Variety‘s rebranding as the industry’s leading source of news and analysis in print and online since it was acquired by Penske Media Corporation in October 2012.

“There are very few people in Hollywood who aren’t keenly interested in high-profile real estate transactions,” said Variety‘s editors-in-chief Claudia Eller and Andrew Wallenstein. “And there’s no one who has better intel, insights and a more distinctive voice on the subject than Mark David. We are thrilled that he has joined our Variety family.”

There are very few people anywhere who are not keenly interested in real estate transactions, high profile or otherwise. Inquiring Minds just want to know, want to take a peep. Maybe we don’t all have as stunning a home as Hunter and Kandi Mahan, but it’s our mansion, and we love it, right?

Here’s our commitment to bringing you the very best intel, insights, and real estate voice in Dallas and North Texas real estate. Keep us posted, and keep in touch!
