As If We Needed Another Reason to Move Out to a Lake House Right Now

A percentage of sales will benefit Dwell with Dignity.

Lisa Robison had a definite plan in mind when she purchased her Star Harbor lake house last June. The Dwell with Dignity founder was going to renovate the property and rent it from Memorial Day to Labor Day, donating 30 percent of the proceeds to her beloved charity.

“The idea was to transform it into a home a family would thrive in,” she says. “Somewhere to escape the city, create memories, and spend time together.”

Darkness into light: a dramatic before-and-after of the living/dining area.

Then COVID-19 hit. Star Harbor decided that short-term leases weren’t the safest option for their community. Shifting gears, Lisa decided to sell the totally updated 2,487-square-foot Cedar Creek Lake cottage.

“Whoever buys it will not only be able to escape this summer, but beyond,” she said. “Of course, Dwell with Dignity will still benefit with a donation of the amount intended.”

Now in its 11th year, Dwell with Dignity continues its mission to support homeless and impoverished families through design.

“Now more than ever, I feel our environments reflect and inform who we are,” she says. “Living through shelter-in-place underscores this theory even more.”

Renovations included new cabinetry, tiling, and countertops.

A designer by trade, Lisa admits she’s happy being back in the creative space.

“Star Harbor is a tiny gem of a lakeside community less than an hour-and-a-half drive from Dallas. I found this little township and waited patiently for a year until a home went on the market for me to renovate.”

Originally built in the 80s, the vintage cottage had some fantastic architectural features, but was badly in need of a complete overhaul. Fresh paint inside and out provided a great start.

“I loved the soaring ceilings and double living spaces, but all of the flooring, cabinets, and windows had to go,” says Lisa.

After completely gutting the bathrooms, bar, and kitchen, she opted for custom soft-close cabinetry, new tile, wallpaper, and luxury countertops. Sliding glass doors and expansive windows optimize natural light and make the most of waterfront views.

Furnishings, included in the listing price, seamlessly blend style, comfort, and functionality. A neutral color palette is perfectly in tune with the surroundings. The house also sports three bedrooms, two full baths, and two half baths.

According to Compass Real Estate listing agent Amy Farris, the cottage checks all the live-work-play boxes.

“Our team at The Warner Group has always been passionate about the lake lifestyle. Now, more than ever, people are understanding why: the freedom of letting your kids run wild, yet still be underfoot; the comfort of family and pets in wide-open spaces; the stars, the sky, and the beauty of nature.”

Located at 3 Big Oak Circle, the fully-furnished property is listed for $875,000.
